Unhappy Help - food stuck?!

I had my first fill on 12/16/05 (2 cc). I haven't had any problems until today. We had our Christmas luncheon at work today. I ate 1/8th piece of broiled fish - 3 green beans - 4 sips of broth from shrimp gumbo & 2 shrimps from the gumbo (cut into pieces first). Then all of the sudden, I had this horrible pain right in the middle of my chest. I had to excuse myself because I thought that a PB was right around the corner. I got so sick - but hardly anything was coming up. I felt better for about 45 mins - then it happened all over again. Felt better again, then about 1-1/2 hrs later, I became hungry & took one bite of chicken & had the pain in my chest again.

Could it be that I didn't chew my food enough? I ate too fast? If anyone has experienced this - please help me out by giving me some advise.

I have got my food stuck once and it was stuck for 6 hours. I am just recently banded in 9/05 and the only thing I could think of was that I ate too fast.

In the information I was given from the dietician on Wednesday it says half a glass of flat coke can clear the hole! Dont know how true it is but that's what they suggest for stuck food - pour half a glass, let it sit and go flat and then drink it.

Jachut, you can make it go flat by pouring it back and forth between glasses until all the fizz is gone.

Doc's advise

Thanks everyone for your advise. That coke thing was interesting. If it happens again, it's worth trying.

I called my Doc's office & they think it was a combination of things: (1) didn't chew my food well enough & (2) didn't drink enough water yesterday. They suggested that I drink water right away & it may help the food down. So, I started to drink water - had no problems, no pain while drinking it. Within an hour, I started to feel a lot better.

I hope that you and your families have a safe & happy holiday!

I'm glad you're doing better. I just had my first fill on Tuesday 12/20 and I've had this happen twice but it didn't last for long--Thank God! I guess I had gotten lazy about the chewing but not anymore. I feel like I'm learning to eat all over again.

When something like this happens, it is best to immediately schedule 24 hours of just liquids (anything you can take thru a straw).

I have the same problem frequently too. I've realized I must not be chewing my food well enough, or ate something I really shouldn't be eating. I've found that slowly sipping water helped me too. Now I just have to have to get the will-power to stay away from the foods that cause that pain. I must say the 1st time it happen I was scared to death that I was having a heart attack! Thank goodness it is something we can control by what we eat. Good luck to all of you.

It might have been the shrimp. I read on one site that shrimp was one of the foods that could be a problem.
