I was wondering the same thing Jack...where has everybody gone? Although I'm not a bandster anymore I do check in and I'm still working on the weight. My band did give me a huge boost in the right direction.

Hey Jack,

It's all explained in a thread I started "I left my band in TJ...". A couple of weeks ago (a Friday night to be exact) I got a horrible stomach virus and couldn't stop throwing up. Then I was so irritated I couldn't get water down (I had my fill doc take everything out). Still in pain and not getting anything down (when it was really hot out too)my fill doc had me get x-rays here in Eugene. Of course they know nothing here and said my band was fine and in place, but I had a blockage. I called Dr. Ortiz in Mexico. He was on vacation, but promptly returned my call-told me he wanted to see the x-rays films asap and for me to get to the hospital to be hydrated. Did as I was told and he called me that evening (a Wednesday) and ordered me to get there by morning. I argued I could come Friday (my sister could go with me then) and he said NO, I HAD to be there Thursday morning. My band was badly slipped and it needed to be taken care of immediately. So I got on a plane by myself and by noon Thursday (the 21st) I was in surgery. Dr. Ortiz said he would try to save my band, but he would do what was best for my health once he got in there. I guess my throwing up had shoved my band way down on my stomach and was basically strangling it. My stomach was purple/violet color. Dr. Ortiz said if I had waited a day like I wanted to it would have been black and perforated. As it was, he snipped my band off and my stomach immediately started to pink up again. I feel so much better. Yes, it scares me a bit going on my own, but I have since experience fullness like I didn't before I was banded. Before I could eat and eat and never really feel full. Like today I ate a homemade hamburger (about 11:30, the first thing I had eaten today)and I was stuffed beyond being comfortable. At night I start to munch and remind myself I'm not really hungry so I drink something instead. I've learned some valuable lessons being banded and I plan to use them to find my way to being normal sized again.
So that's my story in a nutshell. To tell you the truth I was so very truly scared I wasn't sure what to do. Dr. Ortiz says they'll help me with my weight loss with or without the band (like talking to the nutritionist) and if I want to be banded again, we can talk about it in 4-6 months. Most likely will not be banded again. First and foremost I cannot afford it even though he said he would absorb the cost.
Anyway....that's what happened.

Hi everyone,
It has been such a crazy busy summer I just wanted to check in and let everyone know I'm still alive. I've been on a long summer plateau but am hoping to get back on track with excercise and food intake when things mellow and summer ends. It seems like we have had out of town company or gone on some weekend trip ALL summer!!! I'm wiped out!!! Anyway sorry to hear about your band Darcey. Tracey and I still meet and we discussed your situation and both feel bad about it. We also drove up to Washington and met the Dr. Neil fellow. Nice guy and will be a good replacement for the loss of Eubanks though the drive is a bit much. Tracey and I went up there together a couple of weeks ago and she found out her port was completely flipped over and is going to require surgery to fix. She's looking at all her options. I didn't want a fill that day but wanted to meet the doctor and fill out my paper work. Anyway hope everyone is having a good summer and I'll keep a better eye on the boards. Teresa

Thanks Teresa, but don't feel bad about it my band. It's okay. I am struggling with falling into old eating habits and have gone up a few pounds. But now I've asked my older son (who has moved back home) to be my personal trainer. He's really into weight lifting. I've been looking up recipes on the Food Network that are healthy and plan to incorporate them. Part of me misses my band because I felt so much control with my eating. Part of me really enjoys getting to drink during my meals and not have the sore throat or reflux I dealt with.
Anyway, I'll be alright. Thanks for caring.

Oregonians,

I am in the Portland area and looking for a new MD to do my fills. My surgeon is in the Seattle area and requires too much time to see. Can you recommend anyone? Thank you for your help. (Need a fill pretty badly)

Wink

Howdy Chunk:

I use Dr. Dennis Hong over next to Legacy Hospital in the 23rd & Lovejoy area....

Very pleased with his service to me....I don't know what his policy is on doing fills from other surgeons....give his office a call and check it out....I don't have his # handy...good luck and keep us posted...one of these days I'll be as tiny as you are.....

Man, I'm glad I checked this thread! Darcey! You've been on my mind the last few weeks, and I've been wondering how you were doing. I posted a Where's Darcey thread a few weeks agao, but no one had heard from you. I guess you just missed it.

Anyway, I'm glad to hear that you are doing well flying solo. I just wanted to check in.

Take care, we miss you on the big board!

Teresa,
Where in Washington is the doctor you went to meet? Right now I'm seriously thinking about getting rebanded. I'm feeling so out of control! Although I still have to wait a few more months, I would like to see what my options are.
Thanks!

Hi Darcey and all!!!

It was Dr. Neal. I can't remember the name of the town but Tracey and I are meeting next week so I'll get all the info from her. He was very nice but his office has been a bit flakey about getting her port revision request to the insurance company. They ONLY do the band so that is kind of nice. It was a 4 hour drive from Coburg.

Unfortunately that yummy soup place is closed right now. They had some management issues and closed down. Not sure if its permanent or temporary. I would love to get together anytime or anywhere though. Let me know. Best wishes to everyone, Teresa
