Hi everyone. I was banded Wednesday Aug. 23, 2006. I am just wanting to know, how did everyone survive the post-op liquid diet? I am SOOOO hungry! I have been drinking the Adkins Advantage drinks and eating jello, broth and applesauce in-between but I am miserably hungry! Am I the only one with this problem? I asked the nurse at my doctors office and she said this is the time of "Lap Band hell" because there is not any restriction yet and I am going on willpower alone, but I don't have much willpower. If I had it, I wouldn't have needed to be banded in the first place. :) Also, I read a couple of posts that people placed about having to have second surguries to fix kinks, slippages and leaks. I am petrified of this now because I paid for my surgury for myself and I certainly cannot afford to have a second surgury. I bend over many, many times during the day picking up after my four little kids, does anyone know if this will cause any of the above problems to happen? I am paranoid now that these things are going to happen if they haven't already. (I have been picking up after them already). Thank you in advance for all of your replies, I am anxious to hear from you.

What I read - somewhere in these posts was that some doctors automatically prescribe diet pills for that post op period.
As you may know diet pills only decrease your appitite for about a month - that's it - but that would be enough until you first fill.
I plan on ordering something from the internet - just in case my doctor does not prescribe anything for the hungries! :biggrin1:
Check it out!

I was on liquids 2 weeks prior and one week post op, I know how hard it is. Protein keeps you fuller longer and the jello seemed to make me more hungry. Try Isopure from GNC, way more protein per serving with less sugar and carbs. It was a real lifesaver.
Don't give in, don't give up!

Hi Diane,
I am hoping that you feeling better now and less hungry. I made it through the first weeks by drinking a mixture of flavored water and vanilla protein wrey. I filled a 32 once bottle and kept it near me. I worried about sippage too, but you are probably safe. If you can attend support groups, they really help. Portsmouth has one for only lap banders on the second Monday of the month at 6:30 in Shoals Building.

Hello out there, I am in NH and am scheduled to have my surgery the 29th of December. I am going to be done at Portsmouth Hospital. I have Dr. Looser, Any advice or anything. Thanks Donna SMith
Mammysm,
I also have Doctor Looser. Have you found anyone in the program to help you? Doctor Looser is an excellent surgeon, and you'll be in good hands. Everyone the day of the surgery is so caring. You won't be hungry at first after the surgery. I've had 3 fills and I think I'll need a 4th one. But they don't really hurt too much. You'll never actually fill the band inside of you. Please don't do what I did! Learn to slow down and eat small bites. I know that sounds silly but everytime I get sick after eating, it is because I either ate too quickly or took too big bites. It's really important that you try to go to the post op meetings, the second Monday of the month, at 6:30. In fact, let's meet there then.

BRENDA, MY NAME IS DONNA AND I WILL BE HAVING HIM OPERATE ON ME SOON! LET ME KNOW A FEW TIPS PLEASE SO I WON'T BE SO SCARED!!! LOL THANKS, DONNA
The most important thing to remember is that our weight has caused us so many problems that down is the only way to go. I am certain that just like me you have tried countless times to lose weight. Everyone is different with this surgery. Some people lose more quickly,I am not one of those! But I have lost and I can exercise again and I have no regrets!! Dr. Looser is an expert and he'll do a great job. Please do not compare your weight loss to others, just remember this is a life giving and life changing process for us and it is worth the changes in your life you'll have to make. Don't get in the habit of weighing yourself daily...weekly is sufficent. The surgery was truly very easy to go through. Portsmouth Hospital is wonderful and Nancy will be there before you go in. The first fill scared me, but it's not so bad. They freeze the spot before the fill. It's really important to attend the after post op meetings.
Once the band is in you'll never in feel it in there. Stay on the correct phase of the diet until you've been permission to add.
GOOD LUCK
I would compare this surgery's discomfort to the time I had my tubes tied.
I was back at work 8 days.

Hello out there everyone. I was banded on Dec 29th 06. I think I am doing alright so far. but what is kind of upsetting to me is the scales are not going down much at all. Is this normal I am 10 DAYS out now. I am certainly not eating too much and struggling to get the liquids in but getting most of those . I know I do not want to get discouraged, it is not like I am going back and have it undone. i
