-Debra | Where was your surgery performed? Have you heard of a Dr Saline or Salinas? I called Dr Lopez's office they mentioned this other doctor.

My surgery was performed in Overland Park, Kansas. I have never heard of the doctor you have mentioned but as a word of warning- if I were you I would try to avoid Midwest Institute of Bariatric Surgery or I think they go buy Surigical Weight Loss Center in Lenexa at all costs.

City: Carrollton State: Missouri | I have to whole-heartedly agree w/ Debra! Go ANYWHERE except for MWIBS/WLSC!!!!!!!!!! Dr. Lopez did my surgery in January and the pre/post care has been exceptional! His staff is the best you could ever expect, plus some. I'm not going monthly now as we found out we're expecting a little suprise in a few months......but they still call to check on me!!!! They have been so good to me!! Good Luck!

State: Missouri | Thanks for the "Heads Up"
Thanks for the reply. I guess I was a little confused because I went to a MWIBS (Weight Loss Surgical Center) informational meeting back in January 2006, and the card I have with the packet has Dr Lopez's name on it. I have since found out that Dr Lopez is no longer with MWIBS . I am scheduled for a consultation Monday July 3 there. I was going to be referred to a Dr Selim. I think I will cancel until I get more info.
I am so glad that i came across this message board! I can't tell you all how grateful I am for your help. I really want the LAP-BAND®, but I want to be as informed as I can possibly be.
So Dr Lopez left? Isn't this the group that Dr Malley left also? Now I am really confused as to where to go. I have United Health Care. My specific policy does not pay any out of network benefits at all, so I am trying to find someone who is in-network, and whose hospital is in-net work also, if at all possible.
But I am definitely going to heed the warnings to not go to MWIBS. Can anyone tell me what the problem is with them?
Fran

-Debra | May I find out what you know also? I posted my question on the board, but it might not be a good idea to post certain things of a sensitive nature. My email address is drcollier@kc.rr.com just in case you feel like going thru it again. I realize you were discussing these things over 6 months ago, so I'll understand if you are no longer in the mood to talk about MWIBS. I went to an informational meeting in january 2006, and am just now taking steps to get the LAP-BAND ® done this summer.

Fran,
I am also UHC. Dr Lopez is in-network for them and the hospital that he does surgery is is out-of-network...BUT:D ...they take whatever the insurance pays as what it would be as though it was in-network because they want you to be able to use their facility....which is exceptional BTW.
Dr lopez can be reached at 913-649-7300, just ask to speak to Ginger.
Good Luck!
-Debra

City: Carrollton State: Missouri | I'm not shy and will tell you anything you'd like to know. I agree it's very sensitive and shouldn't probably be discussed in the forums. Please see the private message I am sending to you! And don't give up on getting your band!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went to MWIBS info meeting in January also. Apparently Dr Lopez left that group after that.

I used Dr. Lopez when he was with Midwest and I stayed there because I
already paid inadvanced for my fills.
I think that I am going to switch to Dr. Lopez now that my year is up.

How were you treated at Midwest? Did the staff treat you well? Are they competent? What are your impressions of that place?
Thanks.

You might have gotten my question already but I am not sure. Were you treated well at Midwest? And what are your impressions of them? I am scheduled to have a consultation there very soon. Thanks. Quote: |

I was very happy with the treatment from Dr. Lopez and the Spine and Specialty hospital was the best care I have ever received any where.
