Lap Band Buddies / Mentors (NEW!) A buddy/mentoring relationship pairs a successful and experienced LBT member with a novice and/or struggling LBT member. The purpose is to support one another as each person works through the physical, emotional, and spiritual components involved in weight loss. The goal is to get to a healthy weight and stay there. This is a win-win relationship as the successful LBT member is able to reaffirm his/her weight loss and the novice or struggling LBT member is supported in building the confidence and motivation necessary to achieve his/her desired goals.

Just starting out

My name is Sarah, I am married with 1 child who is almost 2 years old. I live in the Houston area. Recently banded on 5/15/08. Preop weight is 272 and goal is 160 to start. I am an emotional eater and tend to eat too fast which is a struggle right now with the band. I work nights as a Nurse and tend to not have enough time for myself and I do not get enough sleep. Looking for a buddy to learn from, lean on, and vent occasionally.

You can do it

Hang in there Sarah8714! You will adjust to this...it just requires you to change just about everything you do! :biggrin2:

I was banded 3/10, and I've found that if I put my fork down between every bite and forced myself to chew each bite until there was nothing left to chew that I did a lot better. Sometimes it takes me 40 minutes to eat my tiny portions.

I'm also a TX girl! I live in McKinney (30 miles north of Dallas). Unfortunately I have more to lose than you, but I'm on my "weigh" down!

Way to go for getting the tool you need to be healthier! I'm sure it will make all the difference in your life (and your daughter's life)!

Hi, Sarah! I'm new too...going to seminar with Dr. Collier next Saturday. I'm probably not as knowlegable as most on this forum -- it's astounding the amount of information and support one can get here! -- but I'm a good listener, so lean and vent away! I'm working on the eating slower and chewing more thing too. When I was growing up, my mother always said to chew every bite twenty times. All through my teens and young adult life, I was always the last one to finish eating. When I mentioned how hard this was to do now, my teen aged daughter said I had just uncovered the reason for childhood obesity! Hmmm...
