BCBSAL Question

I am new to the site and I went to my informational seminar last night. I have a question and hope someone in a similar situation can help. As far as insurance approval goes. My BMI is currently 41. I know that BCBSAL looks back 3 yearsat your weight for approval. I have not been over 40 for the entire 3 years and have been around 38 most of that time. What are my odds of approval given this info. I have 1 co-morbidity (high blood pressure) and a family history of sleep apnea. Any else been in a similar situation?

You should be fine, as long as 3 years prior you have documentation that your BMI was greater than 35 and you had a co-morbitity. BCBSALs website actually has the stipulations for bariatric surgery, which spells everything out. https://www.bcbsal.org/health/import...iatric.cfm#top

I hope so. I was given the impression that I needed to be over 40 for 3 years, but hopefully it will work out. They said the reason for that is that some people will go and gain alot of weight quick to qualify for surgery. That is not the case with me, it has been a gradual gain over the years.
