City: Brooklyn State: NY | What is an esophagram ?
Some, not all, surgeons want their patients to have this test before eating or drinking anything post-op. If you need to have it, you’ll be taken to the x-ray department. A few ounces of barium will be poured into a cup and you’ll be instructed to drink it while standing in front of a black screen. The radiologist will watch as the barium makes its way into the stomach. If no “leaks” are detected, your surgeon will begin you on a post-op diet.
