My Hero the LapBand!

My Hero the LapBand!

My Hero the LapBand!

I have been overweight since my early teens. I have fought ridicule and many upon many failed diets. All this to lose weight and regain it again and again. I went to my doctor for a problem with my asthma and he checked my blood pressure and said it was extremely high and I was borderline diabetic. He put me on a diuretic first and that didn't do enough so he tacked on an additional blood pressure medicine and an acid reflux medicine as well. I looked at him with tears in my eyes and he said I have a suggestion, maybe we should consider leaning toward weight loss surgery. He gave me the options and I did my research. I was nervous and so were my kids and husband. I did not want to die and not see my children grow up, how fair would that be to them.

I made the decision to have the Lap Band surgery done. It didn't take long to get going but I did go through about a year of classes and tests and insurance approval. When they called me to let me know I was approved they scheduled my surgery for April 30, 2007. I was so nervous. My recovery was good. I had a few days that were not so great, especially with the the pain meds, they made me constipated, not a good thing at all!

The first two weeks I lost 17 pounds. I was exstatic. Then it tapered off and came off more gradually after that. I am almost to my 1 year anniversary and I have lost 70 pounds, and went from a 26 to a 16. I have not seen this size since junior high. I would reccomend this procedure to anyone who needs help with their weight, it certainly has been my hero!! I would do it again in a heart beat. Thank you Dr. Kelly, of UMass Memorial Hospital, Worcester, MA and the Lap Band for giving me my life back.

Congrats and Thank you

Your story is very close to what mine is. Its been quite a struggle. I get banded next week on Apr 23rd and I'm excited and scared. I only hope I can add a success story like yours in a year. Thank you much!

Hi Yvonne3b:

I would love to keep in touch with you and help any way I can. Anyone having the band done has obviously struggled with weight issues, because you wouldn't have choosen this route if it was not an issue. My name is Yvonne as well. Where are you from? I am from Connecticut and had my surgery in Massachusetts. Keep in touch with your progress, I would love to hear back from you.

Yvonne

Wow, your an Yvonne too. Funny, my best friend since 8th grade is an Yvonne also. Thanks for replying. I live in the San Francisco bay area in California. I live near the airport in a town called Burlingame. Grew up in this area all my life. Yea, I have struggled with my weight since I was 26 when I got pregnant with my daughter (my 2nd child). Gained 80 lbs with that pregnancy and never went down. Was in an unhappy marriage for 30 years, guess it was my way of paying him back for years of infidelity. Anyway, divorced him and am now with a wonderful man. Life is good except for just losing another 80 lbs. I'll keep you updated and thank you for any support.

My Hero too

I can not agree with you more - I too have always had eating problems. I have lost and gained gained and lost, been on ATKINS, WEIGHT WATCHER (USED TO BY POINTS ON E-BAY) - But nothing beats the lap band. I have lost a great amount of weight.

My pressure has gone down, no more back pain - but the greatest thing is I CAN WALK!!!!

just wanted to say Congratulations to you.
