My new life with a lap band

I have struggled with my weight for a lot of years, tried all the usual diets and some unusual ones! I would lose weight and put it back on plus some.
The most weight went on during the years I spent in a relationship where I finally believed that I was the fat slob I was described as daily.
Three years ago I found my soul mate and its taken this long for me to know that I can do something for myself and feel good about it.
I had been looking into banding for over a year when I joined in a conversation on a news site about obesity and was told in no uncertain terms by one poster that it was time I stopped finding excuses for my weight and do something about it, step one would be to take responsibility for it.
I did. I went the next day and got my referral to the surgeon and that appointment with him was in November 07.
January 14th 2008 I was banded, my weight then was 112kg,my bmi was 43.
Today almost 3 months later I have lost 22.5kg, my bmi is now almost 30. I have joined the gym and I'm starting to love exercise.
I have a new job, more confidence in myself and those around me, and my whole family is eating healthier.
Having a band isn't easy, its a tool to be used, only you can do the work, no oneelse; but that work is so very worthwhile. It's as much a mind change as a life change.
Taking responsibility for my weight meant I had no more excuses, and I finally took the step to better my life.
I have another 20kg + to get to goal weight but I know I can do it this time and keep it off. I turn 50 in June and I look forward to my second half century.
If you are thinking about a band, get all the education on it that you can, talk to people, ask questions, then make an informed choice for your life.
Your life. Your weight. Your choice.
Thanks for the oppourtunity to briefly share my journey.
