Foul Breath

Well, this is pretty embarrassing, but I'm wondering if anyone else is going through this too. I'm suffering from very foul breath. It doesn't matter how many times I brush my teeth, mouthwash, etc. It's horrible and I have a bad taste in my mouth that makes me nauseous. Again, nothing helps. Is this because of the diet? Is it because I"m losing weight? Anyone?

yes, you have 'ketosis breath'.....do a search, there are dozens of threads.

It passes when you start back on mushies and solids.

Not much helps or hides this odor as far as I've been able to find.
Make sure you drink PLENTY of water every day.

One plus that comes with it, is this is also the period where you will be loosing weight the most rapidly, if you are like the rest of us.

It's a product of the altered metabolic state our body shifts to during high fat break-down, converting energy from our stored energy instead of from our 'what we just ate' energy.

Don't worry about it.

cheers on your journey

I went to CVS and bought the Listerine pocket spray, it's sugar free. Seems to work for now. However, now that I think about it....I was around people today and forgot to use it. Oops!

Duh, ketosis....makes sense! Here I thought it was the milk from the CIB shakes that I was drinking! Silly me!

Thanks, Jack :)

I can see you've answered this question before. That makes sense. I'm upping my water intake to see if that helps out some. I've been having trouble getting in all the fluidsI need within the day.

Thanks again

Oh thank God someone else is having this problem too!! I just thought I was strange! Thought it had to do with protein powder or too much broth.

I'll have to go buy some listerine spray before I head to work tomorrow. I start full liquids after a week of clear on Tuesday and then from there I can move on to mushies. So hopefully by the end of the week I can get rid of this nasty taste. I've been trying to drink more water, but because of this nastyness in my mouth, everything just tastes gross.
