Jessica -

I am SOOO sorry to hear about your medical set back. Since you just were in this morning, maybe there are other alternatives that the doctors will come up with. Keep trying! What about gastric bypass? Maybe since that is a surgery in itself, the scar tissue can be removed at the same time?

I'm sure that you and your doctors will come up with a solution. Don't give up!

Our thoughts are with you!

Terri

Keep us posted.

caterpillarfly, i'm really sorry to hear about what happened. please don't give up. you came this far and have done so much, don't let this bad news set you back in anyway. it was better that they cancelled the surgery than proceed which could have put your life in harms way in turn your child would have been affected..

Thank you all for your kind words and support...I am truly heartbroken right now.

I spoke with the nurse today and she didn't sound very hopeful. I guess that the adhesions were attaching my liver to my stomach, as well as my liver to my abs, and there's a good chance the scar tissue would come back if I attempted to remove it. I'm still waiting to hear back from the doctor and I want to ask him if they could install the band through an open surgery, but I really don't believe that he'd want to do that.

I wish you all the best of luck and all the success in the world, and I'm devastated that I won't get to take this journey with you.

Take care May Flowers and Shrinko de Mayos,
Jessica

Hey Jessica - still thinking about you and wishing you well.

I went to a seminar by my doctor, and he said that sometimes when he comes across patients with a lot of scarring he has to do an "open" surgery. I don't know if this is only for gastric bypass or if it is also for lap banding, but I'm sure you are not the only person who has this problem. Hopefully, he will offer you an alternative and your journey will just be a little delayed!! Better safe than sorry. Keep us posted.

xxoo

I know she couldn't help it, but why in the world would they put us together when there were other rooms open. My nursing care lacked a lot to be desired as well. Good thing I'm a nurse or I wouldn't have a clue as to what to do post op, etc.......
Now that I'm home I'm progressing pretty well. I see the Dr the 19th and get the results of a node biopsy he removed while in there. It was enlarged which is worrisome. Just hope its the result of my having a "bug " a week or so pre-surgery. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
Don't have much of an appetite yet, and the pain is Ok except for the neck/shoulder pain which could either be gas or from the node removal or hiatal hernia repair. Not sure. Will return to work by Thursday for sure.
Good luck to those going this week...........
Mel
Yippee! My biopsies turned out negative and I am breathing a huge sigh of relief. Now I can focus on other things. Went back to work yesterday and was exhausted by the time I got home, but did pretty well.
Issues with my bowels, either too loose, or not at all, but am figuring out the best plan of action on that issue.
Haven't had much of an appetite just yet, but am getting plenty of fluids, just not enough protein yet. Will focus on that after I see the MD on Monday.
My biggest and wierdest complaint is my legs. They aren't really painful. No red sreaks, or swelling or anything like that, but just "restless". I find I can only sit in certain chairs, and am fine when I'm up and walking. During the night I sleep fine with no symptoms. Anyone else experience this?

One week and two days out I am doing lots better!! I still have some tenderness and some sore spots. I do tend to get tired a lil bit easier then pre-op but I think that is normal and all will go back to normal eventually.

The thing that is getting me the most is the mega itching from the incisions. Its killin me, I am dying and no one will help me cause of the itching. ROFL I haven't scratched yet, but warm compresses do help with the itches. I know the itching is a sign of good healing and stuff but damn, its driving me NUTS!!!!!!

I had the same leg problem you are talking about around two years ago and it turned out to be a rare side effect to an antibiotic the dr put me on for an infection. He had never even heard of that kind of reaction since it's so rare. Google the med and read the side effects.

Talking I'm Banded!

Well this is the 1st day I have felt like typing.
I was Banded May12th, everything went fine. I was very neverous about having a cold but they did not call the surgery off. 1st day I slept, 2nd day I didn't drink enough and became dehydraged, major headache and nauseous. 3rd & 4th day had intenence heartburn & stomach pain. Called the doctor this morning and found out I was having esophageal spasms. Painfull but not serious. They told me to keep a cup of hot tea near me and sip it all day... and it worked! So I have had some discomfort but nothing serious.
I can't believe I have been banded, for real!

WOOHOO!!! I haven't been having the spasms, but having a hot cup of tea on the throat does indeed feel SOOOOO good!!!

I'm on my second day post-op and feel quite good. I hurt where the port is and that's it. I've been VERY anal about making sure I am sipping water and my Isopure. I've already got over half my water content down for the day. YIPPEE!!!
