re: 2 weeks post op

Welcome to the board! Curious about eating food right away??
We have all had different instructions from our doctors, but generally we all have been on liquids like the first two weeks.
Hmmmmm, I wondering what the purpose of liquids are, do you think it's just to ensure we don't stretch our new stomach or
vomit or something. When I started mushy, I was scared I was going to do damage or something. And, my doctor put Tuna at like week 4 or 5. That seems mushy to me....any opinions?

Hi Cindy -

The liquid phase is to minimize your stomach movement so the band has a chance to heal firmly in place before your stomach muscles have to start working to move food around.

Many people think that if they have no pain when they eat solid food, it must be okay. This is not the case - the liquids are NOT because solids might be painful - it's to keep the stomach as still as possible.

Imagine a cut across your knee - it will open everytime you flex your knee, and take a lot longer to heal. If you immobilize the knee, the healing is faster and cleaner.

Thanks Donali,
I kind of lurk around on here, but always read your posts! They are so helpful to me. And by the way, you are doing a great job on your weight loss! I did follow my liquids for two weeks as prescribed (and glad I did!)
