Hi all, I got banded on 8/17 and the first 2 weeks all I ate was soup and soft stuff then when I found out I could try anything, I did and now I am not losing anything. I did the pre-op diet and have totally lost 15 pounds since 8/1 but shouldn't I be losing more? I am going for my first fill on 9/15 and hope that will be the ticket to get me started. My main concern is what should I be eating? I am the type of person who needs to know how much, what and when and I am not getting that from my doctors office. A lady I met at our first support group told me about this site and I am so greatful to her. I need support and help to make this work and will take any advice from you wonderful folks who are doing this and losing.

Consider the time until you get your first fill as "the healing time". If you don't lose, don't worry about it. I know, easier said than done! Go to the food section and I believe there is a thread around the top of the page that gives a list of the foods in the different stages (liquids, & mushies). If you are past these stages then just try to eat healthy & get your protein in (I think 60-70g/day). Stay away from bread! Congrats & welcome to Band land! I hope someone else can post for you. I'm sure I forgot something! Oh yeah, as Vinesqueen says, "Chew to goo."

Hey scrapqueen....
I was banded on 8/17 also...we are band twins!!!
First of all, doesn't your doctor have you working with a dietian? If not, you should ask him/her about this.
I just started my pureed/mushies last Wednesday and up until then I was on liquids. I was given a "diet" to follow by my dietian, but it is very conservative. I believe if you are eating about 1200-1500 calories WITH NO LESS than 60 grams of protein you are doing just fine.
As far as losing weight....this is a healing time. Once you get a fill, then you are on the road to weight loss. Good Luck....

Hey Margo (my band twin)
No, my doctor didn't get me set up with a dietian. I am going to call him on Monday. They gave me a list to follow but I was hungry and not eating alot on it either, I was getting about 500-700 calories a day! My stomach was growling all the time and I was really tired. So when I heard I could eat anything that I could, I am. Wonder if I should go back to mushie stuff and stay there for a week or two and see what happens. No one has explained to me about the protein amount either. Yikes, I will have lots of questions on Monday, it's one thing to do the surgery as he is a great surgeon but to not give the patient all the important facts...
Thanks, I will check out the food threads and see what I can do. Good luck to you.
Dawn

I was banded on 8/15. I, too, am eating enough not to loose. My Dr. will not give me a fill until the first part of October. I am eating so much less than I used to, but after the first 20 lbs., I am at a stand still. So I am waiting for that 1st fill.

Up until I started mushies, I was only eating between 400-700 calories a day. I, too, did not lose much than....it is kind of like your body is starving and does not want to give up any extra engery, so you don't lose. Then you start mushies and find you are eat 1100-1500 calories fairly easily so you might gain a tad, but than your body comes to an understanding and "accepts" your calorie intake and you start to lose again....
