I Was Banded Today!!

I have been "lurking" around this site for a couple of weeks prior to my surgery, and I found that there is an answer to just about any question one may have. Thanks to all that have posted information so that the rest of us may benefit.

Anyway, My doctor, Javier Herrera MD in Jacksonville, Fl. has been great so far. He does use the two week pre-op liquid diet (yikes), and I did lose 15 lbs while on it. I went into surgery at 9:30 am after a 90 minute pre-op regimine. The surgery itself is a very short duration of approximately an hour, and I was placed in post-op recovery (I'm told, I don't remember) at approximately 10:30 am. I woke back up in the room I had begun in at approximately 12:15 pm (this is the first time I can remember) to very little pain or discomfort. I was put immediately into a chair and have remained upright since. The pharmacy guy and dietician poked there heads in to answer questions, and was home by 2:30 pm.

I feel great as I type, and look forward to a sub-20 BMI (I started at 35 with severe sleep apnea)and hope to gleen much information from the folks here on the site as this get a little mor challanging down the road.:clap2::whoo::bored

Congratulations!!

I was like you. In at 7:30, home by 1. And that includes the 1.5 hour drive home. I was on liquid meds for about a week.

I'm thrilled you are banded and can't wait to hear about your progress!

You can do it to Davimt - remember the band is only a tool it will do 25% of the work - but the other 75% is up to you...

I eat 1000 - 1200 calories a day - I count caloires & protein only - i keep a little book with me - the 1stweek i only counted protein - Once i had my doc visit and moved to mushie i started calories counting - I also walk on the treadmill 4 to 5 times a week - started out doing a 30 minute mile - now doing a 16.50 minute mile - did 4 miles last saturday... I make healthly food choices, i eat ton's of fish... I eat low fat - sugar free - I am WORKING really hard at this... I have some restriction but need another fill soon...

Good luck !!!

Welcome to the site. Sounds like surgery went really well for you. Now starts your new life. You have to help your band by making good choices and exercising. I no longer eat ANY fast food or junk food. The band curbs my appetite enough that i can resist the bad stuff. This is the best thing i have ever done for myself and i mean to make it work for me. Also i was a self pay so i have a lot of money invested in this new life. Best of luck to you. Come to us for support. Donna
