hungry in CT

Hi,

I was banded on 9/24/2008 at Middlesex Hospital by Dr Aranow. Its been almost 6 weeks and Im going for my first fill on 11/7. Im hungry and I hope this fill lessens the hunger. Its been a little better since Ive come off the liquids but I didnt expect it to be so hard. Anyone else experiencing the same thing??

Re: hungry in CT

Hi JVS,
I was banded 2/4/08 at Hartford Hospital in CT.
I have lost 100 pounds so far and have another 25-30 to go. Almost there.
What you are experiencing is normal. As you continue to go for fills you will become less hungry.
It takes awhile (about 2-4) fills to really notice a difference.
Just be patient you will start to see results.
Try and not compare yourself to anyone else because everyone loses weight at different speeds.
Please remember that how much weight you lose and how fast you lose it is up to you.
You have to follow the rules like eating slow, chewing well, pay attention to when you are full and stop eating, do not drink with your meals and wait at least 1 hour to drink again after you eat, choose foods that are high in fiber so you stay full longer, etc.
Remember to exercise! This is very important.
You have a great tool that will control your hunger but it won't work if you do not exercise and follow the rules.
I am on my 4th fill and notice a big difference in how much I can eat. I get full quickly after a few bites and stay full longer.
Let me know how your first fill goes. You may notice a small difference or nothing at all. It takes time to reach your sweet spot so be patient.
Good luck!

Re: hungry in CT

I was on liquids 3 weeks and mushies 3 weeks. By the time actual 'food' rolled around, I discovered a whole new level of appreciation for both eating AND the wonderful interval of NOT eating because of NOT being hungry every second of the day and night.

Go slowly. Nibblenibblenibble. Stop. Wait. Nibblenibble. Stop. Wait. Nibble. Stop. You probably are no longer hungry at that point.

I was a 'gulper' of food, washed down with fluids. It was a new world when I learned how satisfying a single saltine could be.

Re: hungry in CT

Hi Jack,
I know what you mean about taking a few nibbles and then feeling full. I am still getting used to how little I eat now before I feel full.
I also appreciate the way things taste now and still have a problem when I drink liquids. I tend to gulp liquids which I know is a no no. I don't gulp my food down but do not chew it as well as I should.
I have to keep telling myself to slow down.

Re: hungry in CT

Thanks everyone - you give me hope! The MD told me not to expect a lot of weight loss until after the fills so I guess its true.
Im making ricotta chesse with marina sauce from a recipe I found here and I hope that fills me up for a while. Ive lost 19 lbs so far and all in all it has been a lot easier than trying to diet on my own

Re: hungry in CT

Just hang in there you are doing great I was banded on 9-15-08 and only had to be on liquids for one week before trying solids. For me everything I mean everything goes down great no burping, slimming or pukeing the hunger is still there. But I was told that could happen util you start getting fills. I have lost 12lbs to date so I think you are doing awesome.

I was just banded 4 days ago and my stomach is growling and grumbling and is ever so angry with me! So far doing the clear liquids but i am wondering if all this grumbling with my stomach is normal? I really want a cup of cream of asparagras soup but i can't until next week....everyone says too thick?
I do have a quick ?? Can you smoke with the band????????

Re: hungry in CT

The first 4 days were hell !!! I was so hungry with just clear liquids. It got better with full liquids. I bought some broccoli and cheese soup and pureed it in a blender then added some UNJUY protien powder. It kept me satisfied a lot longer than the clear liquids. There are also a lot of good recipes on this site that helped me. Hang in there!!!!
