sometimes when I eat I get pain in my chest and have to make myself vomit to feel better. Does anyone else do this sometime? It happens like twice a week or so.

Well...when I get blocked, I can feel it. It's at the base of and behind my breast bone. That's where my band is. I can feel just about everything pass and I can REALLY fell it when something gets blocked. I've had to make myself vomit before to feel better. When times like this occur my mouth and nose produce enough saliva and drip that I end up vomiting without effort because the saliva etc can't pass the blockage and it all backs up.

This means that you are either eating too fast, not chewing well enough, or eating too much. You really have to chew the food to liquid consistency to avoid blocking the passage through your band to your stomach. And it's not good to have to "vomit" to unblock the opening on a regular basis although it does happen from time to time. My suggestion would be to take smaller bites, chew twice as much as you think you should, and take a break between bites. Sometimes the blockage gets worse because we eat too fast before we realize the pain. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the suggestions I am sure I am eating too fast, I have to really take my time eating. It's a learning process I guess. |

Yes. I have had to do that on quite a few occasions. Infact, my last episode was yesterday at Red Robin. I had onion soup (without eating the onion) because I have been sick with cooties and a sinus infection, so all the post-nasal drip caused some swelling. anyway, I was in major distress and had to keep drinking so that I could start the sliming process. It turns out that all the post-nasal drip from the cold and sinus infection got clogged in my "pouch" and made me vomit my soup and stuff.

i vomit about twice a week and a weird little quirk that i found about myself is when for instance im sitting on the sofa and im kinda twisted things dont go down as smoothly but mostly it is eating too much, too fast, or too big of bite and not chewing. but omg my weight loss is outstanding 98 lbs since may 15 and 70 lbs since surgery on 7/31. im 14 lbs from my goal weight and 24 lbs. from dr. remember when you vomit you normally have swelling and you should go back on liquids for 24 hours. ahhh the red robin i sure do miss the whiskey river bbq burger lol

I haven't been banded yet but I heard from someone when he gets "stuck" - he walks around and then he feels better

Doesn't vomiting cause band slippage? I have been stuck or at least think I am stuck, but, have not vomitted. I have tightness in my chest and back. I feel food and stuff going ariund whatever is stuck. Feels like in the bottom of my throat. Only 6 weeks out of surgery and do not know what to do. Very uncomfortable.

I have had slimes and some PBs but not had the major stuck problem until just lately (I am 7 months post-band.) Right now, I feel like I have not really eaten in about 2 days. Recently with a change in the weather I am suffering from seasonal allergies. I will have to check in with doc about the nasal drip issues. So glad I checked in. Thanks for all the posts.

| I've vomited and sometimes returned to my meal (but taking it slower, chewing more, etc). Most of the time, the majority of the time, my appetite and desire to eat is gone-zo. I was very inquisitive with my surgeon pre-op and I asked him lots of technical questions. He told me he takes a lower part of the stomach and folds it up over the band, like a flap, on the exterior of the stomach, and sews it to secure it. He said this really helps prevent slippage. I'm not sure if they all do this but I've never seen this on any of the illustrations I've seen.

Thanks for the post, I just got some food stuck and it was really painful and had some pb's and the slimes until I threw up and I am much better now. I have been suffering from a severe sinus infection and post nasal drip. My question is does throwing up cause band slippage.

| It can cause band slippage. Especially in the beginning when your body is still healing from surgery. That is why they want us to avoid vomiting as much as possible. My doctor always says to go back on liquids and work my way back up after a pb or stuck episode because the stoma is going to be irritated afterwards. I am glad that you feel better, but be careful with the vomiting.
