This is a discussion on Swimming Pool.... how soon after?? within the POST-Operation LAP-BAND® Surgery Questions & Answers (NEW) forums, part of the Basics for LAP-BAND® Surgery Beginners category; How long did you wait post op, to go in the pool and cool off? Not planning on swimming laps... ...
I started water aerobics about 6 weeks after my surgery. When working out in the water your body can handle more then on land so that is the best thing for ya. I would wait until at least 4-6 weeks just to make sure the incensions are healed up. Best of luck to ya
My doctor told me not to go into the pool until my incisions were completely healed and the scabs were gone. He didn't want me to resume my laps for at least 8 weeks. I could walk inside the pool for resistance before the 8 weeks were up.
I actually never even asked my doctor. I mean, I could take a shower right away...and then the little plastic things that were covering my incisions came off after three days...and I would get in the shower when they were off...but he never told me that I couldn't go swimming...anyway, I was banded May 12th, and I took my kids swimming on Memorial Day...so, two weeks post-op? Something like that...

Hey there! I am heading for LAP-BAND® on the 20th of June. I was glad to hear somebody say you didn't have to wait 8 weeks before going swimming. I have my own pool, and I can't see waiting that long. I understand going to a public pool because of the dangers of infection. Hope you are doing well with your weight loss! I am feeling good about my decision. I feel like I am finally taking control again!
