Scars

Has anyone used any ointments on their scars? I was told by my surgeon that they would disappear over time, but I would like to speed up the process. I was curious to see if anyone used Maderma or any other products.

Re: Scars

I am still preop, but I have an ugly scar on my chest from surgery like 8 years ago. I tried mederma but honestly didnt see much results. Now I am using Dr. Blaine's Scar Care. Its this weird little patch thing that you stick on your skin for 8-12 hours a day. I think I am seeing results. I have to be honest though, the fact that its something not messy that I literally just stick on my skin every morning encourages me to remember to do it - so I may be having better results because I am following the plan better than with Mederma.

Re: Scars

Nope! mine are hardly noticable compared to the stretch marks that are kind of going away. I had my surgery 11 months ago yesterday and a normal person wouldn't be able to pick out my scars. I didn't apply any kind of cream to them. Just be patient. Your scars shouldn't be that big anyway.

Re: Scars

I am 7 months + out and my scars are so small and insignificant they are unnoticeable. Even my port scar is not really that bad. You can see it but you have to be looking for it. The color also matches my skin as well. I did not use anything for scars and it turned out well.

Re: Scars

I decided to use something only because I scar really easy. It's not so much that I'm worried about the scars, I just want them to heal nicely. Mine are really dry too and they itch so this is helping in that respect also.

Oh! I guess I should tell you what I'm using! It's Emu Oil. It's expensive but you only need a little dab. The stuff is going to last forever. I had surgery on 08/25 and started using the oil this past Tuesday. I must say they look fantastic! It also helps with the itching. I don't know if it's the oil or the rubbing but the bruising around the incisions also look A LOT better too. I have a large bruise on my left forearm from blowing a vein with the IV (my veins suck on my left arm, right would've been better but they couldn't use that arm!) and I decided last night to put a little oil on it and overnight looks sooo much better! Especially since it hadn't changed in the week plus since surgery. And like I said, it could be partly rubbing the oil in that's helping too.

They say the oil is good for burns and skin conditions too. DH has some eczema and I'm going to have him try this stuff to see if it helps.

I don't know that you need to use anything but I am!

Re: Scars

My surgery is this monday, 9/8/08, but i have a scar from ankly surgery when I was a teenager. For that scar I used vitamin E gel capsules. You just cut it open and rub the vitamin E directly on the scar. It worked really well for me and isn't very messy or difficult!
Good Luck!

Re: Scars

I used neosporin after my glue came off till they closed up. Then I started using liquid vitamin E and it's working great so far. Only 10 days post op and they're looking great!
