Re: morphine and oxycodone

I was given liquid lortab. When I first woke up I was in TREMENDOUS amount of pain, and I will fairly say I am a wuss when it comes to pain. And very nauseous (sp?). They gave me pain meds and phenagren and i went to lala land for about an hour. After I woke up and as my pain meds wore off, it really felt like very sore muscles, almost like a pulled muscle without the sharp shooting pains. I could easily tell when it was time for pain meds. however, my pain was never again as high as when i first woke up, which was about a 7-8 on the scale to 10. After that I was at about 4ish when it was time for meds. I never felt stoned or loopy, though those around me said I sounded and acted that way, I just felt incrediably sleepy. Took my meds and took about 2 hr. nap on days one and two. Day 3, I took it in the morning becuz of being so sore from sleeping the night through, about mid afternoon and then at bed time. I was only a week outta surgery and could roll over and sleep on my tummy against either my hubby or a body pillow. And again, I am a wuss when it comes to pain...

Hope that helps some and good luck with surgery, you will be fine and do great. I am just now 3 weeks out and havent had a moments regret and since I started eating soft foods last week, I have lost an additional 1 1/2 lbs.

Re: morphine and oxycodone

Yup, I was wondering about this myself. Oxycodone makes me loopy in a bad way: racing thoughts/heartbeat and nausea. I recently had to go to the dentist and they gave me some dark red pills that were indeed quite pleasant. No wonder there's a no refill by federal law. Anyone know what that could be??

Re: morphine and oxycodone

I went home a couple of hours after surgery, so there was not a morphine pump, and they did not give my any oxycodone. The surgery was painful but tolerable. I have had 2 c-sections and the post-op pain was not as bad as those surgeries. I used vicodin for first couple of days and was back at work 1 week later without any problems. The key is to keep moving even when it is painful to do so.

I was given morphine in the hospital. I have never had it before either. They give it to you in such a low dose that there isn't such a loopy feeling. I just slept afterwards. They gave me morphine every 4 hours. When I went home they gave me liquid Vicoden(sp). It wasn't really bad. I was super sad when I ran out of my liquid vicoden... LOL but I am glad I did have it. I wasn't on a morphine pump but they were giving me shots of morphine via IV when I was in recovery. Then, because I was feeling okay in my tummy (not nauseated or anything) they said they were going to try and give me whole pills and see if they stayed down... they gave me vicadin and it didn't work too well so they gave me perkaset (oxycodone)... that really helped for the pain... but after 2 days I didn't need any pain meds at all. The oxycodone just made me sleepy... good luck

Was it a tablet or capsule? That will help identify the medication.

Re: morphine and oxycodone

I had a morphine pump for the first day and it really helped me sleep in the hospital. The next day they removed the pump and gave me IV push Toradol twice which is like non-steroidal anti-inflammatory med. It worked great. THen I went home with Oxycodone and took 10mg liquid. WOW...too much. I backed down next time and took only 5mg. Much better. Oxycodone 5 mg liquid is equal to one Percocet so if you have had that before you know how it works. Good luck with the banding. You will be fine. The anxiety all goes away once you get your pre-op meds. Ask for them as soon as you can.
