Ice Cream!!!

Alrighty, does anyone think it would be absolutely horrible to have a little ice cream once in a while? For instance, today, I have only had around 400 calories. It's 7:30 at night and my family is going to have some ice cream. I could have a half cup of ice cream for less than 200 calories. And then not eat anything else today. Of course I know it defeats the whole purpose of the band but that's why I say once in a while. Thoughts anyone?

I believe the purpose of the band is to help me eat like a normal person. Normal people eat ice cream. I eat ice cream. If I want something, I have it. The reason people binge is because they deny cravings until it gets the best of them. I believe everything is ok, in moderation.

Thank you for your thoughts. I feel a little better and not so guilty. I was really stressing that.

so, i'm sure there are some that would say don't eat the ice cream, practice will power. maybe that is a really good answer. but isn't the point of the band to teach us how to eat healthy for life? i think having a 1/2 cup of ice cream is ok, because that is a normal portion. its 120 cals of ice cream instead of 800. i've had ice cream a few times, but i'm perfectly happy just having 1/4-1/2 cup, where 2 weeks ago i would have had 1/2 the box. it's reasonable, as long as you see it as a treat after an otherwise healthy day, and you don't let it compromise your weight loss by over-indulging.

I zoned in on your 400 calories by 7:30p!? Why so little nourishment?

Just one of those days. Had yogurt with fruit for breakfast then our lunch after church took forever to cook so it turned into dinner. Normally I'm averaging around 700 calories a day

Dessert once in awhile is definitely normal.

But if you find yourself eating ice cream and other desserts too often, or find that eating the ice cream tonight starts you down a slope where you are starting to crave junk food a lot, then it's better to avoid it for awhile. Everyone's different!

Of course it would be OK once in a while.

The only thing I would say is to make sure you're eating enough healthy food, 400 calories is pretty minimal intake, and you probably should eat a whole entire meal rather than the ice cream, lol. You dont say whether you're just recently banded, if so, then all the more OK, its hard enough to get in calories and nutrients - and ice cream does contain calcium!

I hate ice cream thank goodness, lol, but I would say it would be OK to have a small bit if you'd eaten 1000 calories!

Low Fat Ice Cream

I had some low fat Ice Cream the other night I think having a small portion is better then dreaming and wanting and then eating something really bad. So go for it but be smart. Ericka

Wow! 700 calories a day??? You will stop losing weight soon doing that. You need to eat more calories. You are starving yourself and slowing down your metabolism. EAT!

Thank you all for replying. I am also well awaire that the amount of calories I had That day were not enough. You don't live life as an over weight person without learning the rules. Im sure all of have had a day now and then that we eat either too little or of course too much. Please don't assume that I think I can lose weight eating that little. It was a sanpshot of one day. As far as the ice cream goes. It was quite yummy thank you very much. And I will probably do it again some day :)
