I threw Up!! *sigh*

So last night I ate some thai food left overs. Pad Thai Woonseen to be exact but the noodles are small and clear.

Anyway I took a bite and I felt a bit of pressure so i slowed down took another bite when it felt ok.

let me tell you it was not OK by any means.

I started to slime and could not stop spitting. I was literally tapping on my chest and back like I was burping myself.

It hurt so bad I was hoping it would work itself out, but ti didn't finally I started to slime like a darn faucet and next thing i new I could not even make it to the lav I tossed right in my kitchen sink.

It was just a little amount. I felt some relief, but still pressure.

Oh no here comes the slime again, like a faucet and BLARF another little bit of food and liquid.

Now today i don't feel any pain but my stomach is gurgeling like a mofo and I just feel tired.

Has this happened to anyone? I mean how do you feel after this happens?

I just want to nap right now!! I think maybe I should do a liquid only for the next couple days till my body loves me again!

Any words of wisdom for the all knowing lapbandtalk gods?

XOXO
Barbie

That happens to 'most everybody....you had a PB. Leftovers of all kinds gnerally don't work. - even if it was fine the night before, the texture changes and that's what our bodies respond to.....I've had to learn to throw food out - very hard lesson to learn when you are 'frugal' (and when it still tastes so good!!). Pasta is not a good choice anyhow....no protein in pasta and that's what we are all about with a band, ya know!!

Any time you have a PB episode, you are going to have some swelling.....go back on liquids for at least one day and let the swelling go down and any irritation heal, then ease back in with mushies before you try norma food again.

Hi Barbie - from another Barbie! I've been banded for two months. I've had a couple of episodes like you're describing. They suck in the worst way! Somebody offered a suggestion and it worked for me: the minute you feel that pressure in your chest, stop eating. If it keeps building run to the freezer and get a popcicle. I couldn't believe that would work, but when I tried it, it really did work. Sometimes I have to have two popcicles, but I think it's the cold that works. When food gets stuck the tissues start swelling right away - the cold shrinks them.

Good luck! Hopefully it will be the last time either of us have that!
Barbara

PB I believe means Productive Burping. She pretty much described the activity.

I had a slight PB episode after a fill, when I didn't cut my BP pill in half and it got stuck. I also slimed some and spit up twice. However last week I really went for the gold (not intenionally). I had bought a small package of ham steaks that were fully cooked, and I brought one to work to heat in the microwave. I had eaten them maybe two times before and while they may sit for a while, they didn't get stuck. I am still learning to chew more, and I don't always, plus I didn't cut off that little edge that is like a skin on the ham steak (I will from now on). I had finished the ham steak and started on my salad (Romaine, parmesan cheese, bacon bits and low fat caeser dressing). I eat at my desk so it is hard to totally focus on my food. The pressure started building in my chest and I couldn't finish my salad. The pressure got so back I actually contemplated a trip to the ER, but decided to wait it out. Then the slime started, in earnest. It is a totally weird feeling to have to throw up without feeling nauseated. I spent the afternoon running to the bathroom, and it gradually resolved. I plan to approach ham steaks with a hefty dose of caution (and cut the edge off) but they are really tasty and I don't want to give them up entirely. Just want to avoid the PB/slimes.

Forget the PB, I throw-up. Since third fill in April, I throw up almost everyday. I have to make a conscious effort to not throw up. I know it puts my band at risk. Yesterday I made the committment to not throw-up. I went out to eat with a friend and was able to eat 1 1/2 fried mushroom before I was stuffed. I am just now realizing (6 weeks later) how little I can actually eat. It is amazing. For lunch, I had 1/4 of an avacado. Done. Actually, I should have had 1/8! Getting over the fat mentality is sooooo hard. I think I'm starting to adjust. I am down 50 lbs, so I must be doing something right.

productive Burp. its like when a baby has too much formula and they spit up. you get a really bad feeling in your chest possible hiccups and you get that spitty salty thing you get right before you puke and then BLARF you toss your perverbial cookies.

I guess it will happen to all of us at least once.

Thanks for the PB explaination, how does a person avoid this happening? It sounds dreadful.

Re: I threw Up!! *sigh*

Yeah, that totally just happened to me. It has been 3 weeks (1 post-band) and i haven't cheated once. It was a bad day at work so i decided to have some enchiladas and beans. I figured i could chew them really well and they would go down. I was WRONG! I pb'd all over the place, accompanied with sliming. Now I know what happens when I don't follow the eating guidelines-- I learned my lesson for sure!

Hi Barbie and Barbie- from yet another Barbie!
Pineapple juice works really well for these episodes, also. With each episode we go through a learning experience about what we can and cannot eat!
