Getting stuck????

My sister and I were both banded 1 month apart from each other, her in April and me in May. She has had 1 fill of 4cc'c but still has no restrictions. Since her surgery she talks about certain foods getting stuck???? If she has no restriction on the amount of food intake yet then what is she talking about some foods getting stuck like baked chicken for one. I have heard of food getting stuck in the pouch but if she has no restriction yet I can't see that being the reason....has this happened to anyone else with no restriction??? I on the other hand have no restrictions and all foods seem to go down just fine.....unfortunately.....

She may not have restriction in the size of the pouch but... She still has a smaller hole in which food has to travel through. If she swallows something that isn't chewed as well as it should be it cannot go down easily into the pouch.

I had this happen before I learned how to chew properly before even getting a fill :)

If food is getting stuck, she has some restriction.

As your body changes around the band you will feel more and less restriction. My band seems to have more restriction the week before my period, I talked to my doctor and she says this is normal for some
people. You will both discover that even with no fills there are foods that are more difficult to eat. Have either of you tried steak or prime rib? Thank goodness I ate my fill of that before I was banded cause I haven't been able to since.
Other foods that are challenging are chicken, lettuce, rice, most meats. That's why you have to be real careful about getting enough protein.
By the way nothing really gets stuck. If you have a problem with it, it will come out! Not nice but true.
Congrats on your band, I'm jealous that you have your sister to do this with. Keep the comparing down and good luck!

Since my banding I have ate all kinds of meat, steak, chicken, pork etc and nothing at all gets "stuck" on me. But I am still confused, if she can eat as much as she wants with no restriction what is the getting stuck thing??????????

Trust me there is restriction there :) I too had a small stuck before my first fill. You learn as you go and chewing well is something you will definitely learn (smile)
I think it's GREAT you have your sister to share this with! Good-luck to you both!

Restriction comes in many ways. Sometimes its with certain foods, sometimes its with how much you try to eat and sometimes its the order you eat your food in. If I eat sugar free pudding by itself, I might be able to eat a whole mixing bowl full, but if I eat a part of a chicken breast before I eat the pudding, the chicken takes longer to go through the band and I might only be able to eat a very small amount of the pudding without feeling uncomfortable or vomiting. all of us have different size tubes ( don't know the medical term) to our stomachs, could be that your sisters was bigger than yours so when the band was put in she feels that it takes longer for the food to go down now. Neither one of you are feeling the restriction sweet spot yet. you'll know it when you get there.
Also horomonal changes can effect the tightening of the band. The week before my period I can eat very little. Doctor says this is normal.
Hope this helps, trust me when you have restriction, you'll know it!

I sometimes feel like things get stuck in my throat. It happens more in the morning or when I don't chew enough...It hurts a lot and I HAVE to drink something to wash it down...even though I am not supposed to drink with my meals I take a sip if something is stuck. But that is definitely in my throat NOT my pouch.
