Metformin after Surgery...

Hi everyone...I, too, have PCOS and have been on Metformin for years now. I was wondering how everyone is taking their Metformin once they've been banded...I take 2 500mg XR tablets twice a day, and, man....they are huge pills. Did your docs switch you to a liquid medication or can you still swallow the pills? I know that the extended release tabs that I'm on obviously cant come in liquid form...but I dont ever get that gittery, low blood sugar thing with the XR so I will be bummed if I have to switch back to the regular stuff.
Anyway...any input is appreciated :)

I just started chewing my own 1000mg tab and swallowing it.

Yes they are bitter. Seems to work.

If you chew an extended release tab then it is no longer extended release.

I just stopped taking them. My insulin resistance has dissapeared and according to my dr I don't need the metforming anymore.

I cut mine into 4 pieces and swallow with hot tea usally. I am not very tight so for right now this works, later if I get a tighter fill I may have to chew them.

I take 2 850 mg tabs and yes they are big but I can still swallow them...I even have a pretty tight fill right now and there are lots of things I can't eat but my medicines always go down.

the met

I just use a pill crusher- i asked the pharmacist and he advised me to do it this way with the type I have.
I was on 2000mg/day- but the day of surgery, my doc cut in half. He said I won't even need it anymore soon enough.

BUT yesterday, I took my water pill and spent the day in the bathroom. I usually take 4 of them and only took 1 yesterday. YIKES- that was a rough day:(
