Lap-Band and PCOS

Does anyone else have PCOS? I am wondering how having the band has helped with it and if your weightloss was still in the average ballpark or slower. My surgeon said that mine may be slower but still very possible with the PCOS as a factor. Just wondering if there is anyone else.

For all of you suffering from pcos. I suffered for years till I found in an article that the diabetic drug metforin will help stablize your periods. I was on that for 4 years had a period every month. Many women with pcos using this drug have even gotten pregnant and this does help with weight loss also. There are side effects tummy aches and diahrea if not taken properly. But just having your cycle return to normal gave me piece of mind. Unfortunately, had to have hysterectomy last year and mommy of one, but thats okay there are benefits to being mommy of one too, just having to go through teenage years is one and that where I'm at now!
Hope this is some helpful information.

I have PCOS. I have been banded a little over 14 months. I've lost 75 lbs.. That averages out to be 5.35 lbs. a month. That's not bad at all when you look at it all averaged out. Of course I didn't lose it like that. There were many months the scale wouldn't move & then wham -10 lbs. over night. In my opinion it's harder, but definately doable! Good luck to you!

I tried metformin but it did not help my periods resume as i'd hoped. And as for for weight loss, nothing. Basically it did nothing noticeable for me. Weightloss is supposed to be the very best thing for it. So here I go :)

I have PCOS and although the weight is moving off, I can gain it back quickly, just like before. So vigilance is key.

I've never had a problem with irregular periods but did gain a lot of weight from the time I hit puberty. After being diagnosed with PCOS roughly 5 years ago, I took Metformin for about 4 years and it didn't do much for me, especially in the weight loss category. It has helped some people with PCOS, but not all.

I have it bad, and we recently adjusted my metformin (since I weigh less now) - bad move!!!! I need the greater amount to keep periods at normal 28-30 day and keeps weight steady. It will be hard sell for my endocrinologist though! But the Acne is now back and I am loosing with my refill, however the symptoms returned with a vengence about 2 months after lowering dosage.

BAND LOSS HAS BEEN WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did have such irregular cycles for the first 6-8 months when banded every 2-3 weeks. But the stabiliezed till dr lowered the met with my weightloos slowing down and reaching near goal!

LOOKING GREAT!!! I was banded Dec. 28, 2007 and two weeks ago I had lost 21 lbs. I started out at 259 lbs. I go again this Wednesday for a second fill and I can't wait to see how much more I have lost. Can you tell me what PCOS is?
