#33 | | | Where can I find Fieldings book How oto live with lapband?
hi La Madam
I see u said u have the book by Ren and Fielding
Im in the USA and cant find it ANYWHERE
ive seardched everywhere even ebay
any chance u know where to get a copy?
thanks so much
QUOTE=La_madam]I agree the book was poorly written it has many typos and sort of slang like language. I also agree that it it does not reflect his surgical skills. The book that Dr. Christine Ren & Dr. Freling wrote is very good Lap Band Book It is called How to live with the Lap Band
I have copies of both and find this one better then Ortiz's book. However Ortiz's book does have some helpful info in it that I have learned from and being down 77.75 lbs and from a size 22 to a 12/14 I must be doing something right.[/quote]

Hi! I just ordered the book last week and will let you know if it is still full of typos! Also I was one of those 24 hour recoveries, I had my surgery on Friday, flew back to Ct. on Saturday night and Sunday morning and was back to work on Monday! And I felt good other than a little soreness! I thought Ortiz and his staff did a great job.

I was fine in 24 hours also--it was FIVE DAYS LATER that my shoulders & neck were so painful I had to take a day off work. My port was fine, tummy fine, but my shoulders--OUCH! It's really bizarre, but evidently unheard of for the dissipating gas to cause muscle soreness. I would not have believed how painful it could be until I went thru it!
Until I had a big PB, that was the worst part for me.

Kare, that is bizarre! To have the gas pains so severe 5 days later! I just started solid food(thank God) Friday and as yet no PB, but I'm dreading that event. I notice that I eat entirely too fast and have a hard time chewing enough, altough its generally only when I'm eating with my children who are 2 and 3 years old. I find that I don't pay enough attention to what I'm doing because I'm too busy with them! I know that will be the cause of my first PB!

I do tend to hold my tension in my neck and shoulders so I think I was just really sensitive to the gas thing.
My first big PB (I've only had w) was with COTTAGE CHEESE. I still don't even get that. I'm sure I ate it too fast, but comon...cottage cheese?
Yes, you do have to pay attention. Those PBs can be really spooky--the associated heartburn is likely like no heartburn you've ever experienced before and the worst part is you don't know how long it's going to last. My first was about 40 minutes and the 2nd about 20. From what I've read on here they can vary a lot.

Today is my 5th day post-op and last night was the worst night of all for me. I didn't have severe gas until then. Today I still have severe gas pains and am nauseated because of it. Strange how this works. I felt good after 24 hours, too.

It is kinda weird because you're not expecting it. Hang tight--this too shall pass!
A week from now I bet you'll be feeling great.

I have to respectfully disagree with the negative opinion of Dr Ortiz's book. Granted, there should have been more attention paid to proper English grammar, however, the information was practical and if you are using Dr Ortiz as your surgeon, very accurate. The 24 hour recovery - mine was about a 4 hour. I was up and walking around that very afternoon and was in very little pain the following days. I had my surgery on a Thursday and was back to work Monday with little to no pain. I had a little discomfort in my port area, and did have gas pains, but getting my wisdom teeth pulled last year was more painful than this procedure and I was on Vicodin then! I am so glad he wrote a book, with the help of his colleagues I might add, that discussed in great detail the procedure and what to expect after, and some success stories as well. I think all of us considering Lap Band should absolutely read this book (and any other info you can get your hands on!) so as to make an informed decision. For those of us already banded, it is an informative piece and I have found it to be useful (especially the Q & A section) whenever I have a question about how my body is reacting to something or what to expect. For those banded a while, maybe it wouldn't be such an informative read, but for me barely 3 weeks out, I would recommend it to all considering the procedure and those starting out on their weight loss journey. And as an Ortiz patient, he has the ego for a reason: he is good at what he does!!!
