What is your BMI?

Barix Clinics - Is Surgery Right For You - BMI Calculator

First things first... you may or may not have a hard time finding a surgeon who will do this. If your BMI is under 35 insurance won't begin to cover it.

What is your BMI?

Some people weigh 250lbs but they are happy at 200 even though a normal BMI is 150. So they are 100lbs overweight but are happy being 50lbs overweight.

Some people are 125 and they want to be anorexic looking at 75lbs.

It doesn't always depend on how much you WANT to lose, it depends on how much you NEED to lose. What is your BMI?

I *think* it is Australia that their socialized medicine will pay for banding on folks with a BMI of 30 or more. It's just in the screwed up US that they make you wait until you have done severe damage to your body before they will pay for surgery. ;)

So to answer your question, yes. Many.

i live in hollywood... my dr., who i assume does lots of famous celebrities, says that Lap Band is often the way that many actor/actresses use this for losing and/or gaining weight for parts.... or for maintaining their skinny appearances.

(emphasis my own)

Not quite understanding why he would claim that getting banded helps in famous folks gaining weight. It's a tool for weight loss. I think I am suspect of your doc's claims.

no, no, no.... they use the band to keep eating at bay, and if they have a roll requiring them to gain for a part, they have it opened so they can eat enough to gain weight.

And you assume your doc does this practice of opening them so they can gain weight?

That sounds like yo-yo dieting to me and know it's not healthy. I disagree about Lap Band to loose 50 pounds. I've been there and I know it's hard to take and keep off. But I did this for my health not apperance sake although that's the added bonus. Good luck on whatever decision you make.
