Wink NSVs: Gittin rid of clothes & Shaving!!!

Finally some NSVs! I have been putting off going through my clothes for some time now. I finally decided to take the bull by the horns & get it over with. 3/4 of my clothes were too big for me! & I've been putting this off? :rolleyes I also shaved my legs last night & didn't feel like a contortionist!! Well now the issue of buying more clothes. Tell me what ya'll did please. I need advice. I hate to spend money on clothes & then turn around & not be able to wear them. Any ideas are appreciated! I was going to call my doc to schedule another fill today. But when I got up I weighed & I had lost another 10 lbs. I was plateaued for a month. I guess it was a true plateau & not just needing a fill. Anyway, thanks in advance.......Jess;)

New Clothes?

How about trying some new clothes from Ebay? I buy a lot there.....and most people would never know! I used a tape measure to measure my favorite shirt, shorts, pants.....and keep those measurements near by. When I search for a top on Ebay, for example, I know I like V necks that are a specific length....makes it easy to find! Same thing with shorts, pants....skirts...I have run into very few problems buying on Ebay - I established an account ahead of time with Paypal - basically just registering my credit card....and away I went! (Paypal is a great and safe way to pay other people - it is free for the buyer!) Many people sell things that are essentially new too - think of all those things you have in your closet that you wore once, or that still have tags on them?! I have found most people to be pretty honest....and I never buy anything without checking the photos of the item, or the seller's feedback - this is really important to do. Try it!

Another idea is to try shopping at your local Salvation Army - another place to pick up some used clothes.

Do you have any consignment stores in your area? They are a great source for nice clothes. I have gone from a size 22 down to a 18, and almost out of those now, and have been taking things in there to sell, and looking for smaller sizes to buy. And it is inexpensive!
Good luck.

Thumbs up

do you have a local support group for gastric bypass or LAP-BAND® patients? we have both here and are planning to do big clothes swap. all are asked to bring clean and neatly folded clothes to the event. some women are even bring bras to swap..those buggers really do get expensive. and i look at it like this...i can always re wash things myself once i get them home to be sure that they are clean for me when i go to wear them. and I will be sure to pass along my nice ones to others as well. Beats the hell out of spending $60 for two bras every time you turn around. Best of luck to you.
And JACK..I want to see pics of you shaving your legs. and your pitts too if you are brave enough to show them here! :p

I also suggest Ebay...I have purchased lots of things and have only had a little problem one time! Check the feedback for sure! If they are over 98%, I feel very confident. There's also a way to send the seller a question, so if you are not sure of sizing or measurements, just ask! The one caution: you cannot get a refund if you just don't like or it doesn't fit. It is an auction, not a garage sale! That said, I have bought some way cute things from sellers on Ebay...and check out Ebay stores, too...several specialize in plus sizes. I do alot of internet shopping, and always check out my favorite stores' "outlet" or "sale" sections! What a great problem to have! Congratulations on your superb weight loss! Cindy

A good tailor!

I've gone down a few sizes.

I've taken some of my nicer, more expensive clothes to the tailor to be altered. It's more cost effective than buying new every time you lose weight, particularly if you're dropping sizes rapidly.

I've been very pleased with the results.

I was quite lucky in the fact that when my hubby noticed I'd dropped a few sizes (cause my pants were falling off while I walked around the house), it was near my b-day, so he gave me a gift certificate to my favorite store. They were having a sale, so I bought one or two things in my current size, but heaps more sale items in smaller sizes, so I can shrink into them.

A few of the things I really like, I'm going to be taking to the tailor to have altered. The one in my town only charges $5 for a pair of pants. Most of my top, I like bigger anyway.

I've now gone through my closet and given a friend of mine all my old clothes that are too big now. I don't ever want to get back there again lol, so getting rid of the clothes was a good incentive.

Wink

Thanks for all the ideas! I will definately try ebay. And we do have a big consignment shop here. I can't believe I didn't think of that. I wish we did have a support group for WLS here. I have been thinking of approaching my doc about starting one through his office. My Sister-in-law had GB surgery & that is how she got rid of her clothes & found new, smaller ones. The only problem is she's in Oklahoma & I'm in Arkansas, or I would just go to that one. Anyway! Thanks again.........Jess :banana :banana :banana

Oh & Jack, I would like to see that too! LOL!! :D

I have been thinking about this too. I went through my closets a few weekends ago and reorganized everything. My friends tease me about this but I got some of those round size tags (the ones that separate the sizes) and I put them in my closets. I have only kept my better clothes, especially pantsuits for work. But, as they tell me I am a "freak" when it comes to organizing things and time management. Anyway, one thought is that I will know exactly what I have in each size and not have to spend to much time searching (I am optimistic that I will change sizes often :-). I figured if I didn't do this I wouldn't realize that I did have more things to wear than I thought. Plus, I work out of town every other week so it makes packing much faster. I also put a big basket in the closet to keep the clothes (after cleaning) in when they become to big and I will give them away.

Maybe we could start a clothing exchange on here. If we posted some information like what size(s) we need and what types of clothes (jeans, shorts, scrubs, business casual, suits) we needed we could help each other out. I would be willing to send a few shipments to others on here. It would probably be later this fall before I have much to send, and most of what I would have would be business suits (pants with jackets).
