State: New York | I take a multi-vitamin, a B-complex, vitamin C, calcium, and folate. If your surgeon works with a nutritionist, give that person a call.

City: Jacksonville State: Florida | I haven't been taking any, but I feel like I need to. I know there is no way I could possibly get a normal "adult" vitamin down. I see one of you are doing the children's vitamin. Are they basically the same as the adult? Is there a liquid vitamin that we can take?

Consumer reports ranked Flintstones chewable as one of the most complete vitamin available. You could not pay me to take the liquids, they are NASTY!! My surgeon started me on one a day. My DH had RNY and has taken one per day for 4 yrs and is great!

City: Jacksonville State: Florida | Great, I loved Flintstone's chewables when I was a kid. As long as they have basically the same value as an adult vitamin, I have no problem with taking them.

Please do take a multi-vitamin. I just recently had lab work done with my doctor. I have iron deficiency anemia because I've drastically reduced the amount of meat/protein I used to eat. I was taking Viactiv...turns out, it doesn't have any iron. Duh.
And yes, the children's chewables are almost identical to adult vitamins. They're also less expensive. :)
Taking a vitamin is one of those "it's not going to to hurt to take it, so why not?" type of things...

If you use a program like http://www.fitday.com and track what you eat, including supplements for a couple of weeks, you can find out exactly what you are getting enough of, and what you're not getting enough of. I got the downloadable pc version to use, and I plug in my foods, and added in the custom info for my supplements, read the reports for my nutrient levels, and voila, know right away what I'm missing. I was amazed to discover how much I wasn't getting even though I feel I eat very healthy and was taking some supplements as well as multivitamins. Now I know where to supplement and when.

Until I was able to swallow solid vitamins, I used children's chewables and chewable "C". I drank milk with the vitamins to control acidity.

I bought Centrum chewable in Orange Flavor. I compared the ingredients to the Flintstones Chewable and it had more vitamin, including Folate, which Flintstone, I believe did not.

I have been taking TO YOUR HEALTH liquid vitamins for about a year. I know most of you cringe at the thought of a liquid vitamin, but the drinks tastes like fruit juice. My doctor explained to me that liquid is better absorbed by your body and you get more nutrients out of liquid than you do from a pill/capsule. The vitamin is pretty pricey, but I definitely think it's worth it, I can tell a difference in the way I feel. Here's the link if anyone is interested! To Your Health |
