mashed potato

This may sound nuts but someone said they thought I could have mashed P's in my pr-op stage. Does this sound nuts to you.

My doctor just focused on calories pre-op: 2 weeks of 1000 calories per day and 2 days pre-op clear liquids only. Mashed potatoes were allowed, just gotta count them.

Post-op: 1 week clear liquid, 1 week "full liquid", 1 week mushies (can include mashed potatoes, but again, keeping calories to around 1000), 1 week soft food, then progressive regular diet.

I did have a small serving of mashed potatoes on the mushies stage - I looked up the calorie count and enjoyed them.

I learned this the hard way. Stay away from KFC's mashed potatoes post op. They tend to stick together and get stuck. :(

Best of luck to you!

Mashed Potatoes are my friend. I eat atleast a serving of them once a day either for lunch or dinner. I couldnt have them however until a week AFTER my surgery. Granted I did not have to go a pre-op diet. But if your doctor recommends it I would suggest calling his office and finding out if you can have them.

I was not allowed mashed potatos, they have carbs and carbs turn into sugar. I was on a sugar free diet for 10 days, check with your doctor, most pre-op diets are to help shrink the liver and the does not include mashed potatos. ~Mandy
