:help: Ok, I know this topic has been discussed a thousand times, but I just need to re-visit it again and bitch for a moment about people who bring CRAP to work for everyone. My office has 5 people in in - 2 of whom are out of town right now, so WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY does one girl bring a HUGE box of friggin donuts!!! If you want a donut, fine, go eat one, but don't bring a whole box where I (the person with the food issues, I mean, HELLO I have a LAP-BAND® and they all know this) have to walk by the box of donuts all day long, because they are still there because 3 freaking people can't eat a HUGE box of donuts. I'm sure the girl that brought them ate one and that was it,,,, but for me, I have been thiking about that donut all damn day! I am not going to eat it (which I would have pre-LAP-BAND®) because I am in control and I choose not to eat the donut,,,,, but that doesn't help the fact that all I have wanted to do all day is eat that sour cream donut drenched in icing. And she told me "if you want it just eat it and then work out longer." Ok Barbie, it's taking everything I have to work out at ALL, much less longer. Whew, sorry, I just had to vent. I know you all understand the pshycological battle, I just wish other people did and wouldn't bring freaking donuts to work, when other people in the office have asked MULTIPLE times that if people bring junk food to keep it out of sight in a drawer in thier office. I even made a reference to that today and she still hasn't moved them - it's been 7 hours and the donuts are still on the counter in the community kitchen. I am going to kill someone! :help:

I so get what you are saying. I spent a year and a half walking past the danish cookies, bowls of large candy bars and the box of donuts the florist brought every day and it was hard! All of the sudden one day, I was really hungry from skipping breakfast and lunch and dug in.
There is no such thing as just one for many of us and there is no such thing as "moderation". I know that these types of foods will literally make me ravenous and I could eat the whole box. The people that bring these things in, usually don't understand this and they CAN eat just one and not keep going back. A POX on them LOL

I can really relate. My "crew" is a big bunch of snackers too! I just tell myself that there's nothing special about what they brought. It's the same old junk food I've had a million times before in my life and nothing good ever came of it before! (You gotta psych yourself out sometimes!)

I totally get what you mean.. my co workers bring stuff too and it seems we are constantly celebrating something with pizza etc. Only thing that I can suggest is stocking up your desk with snacks that you CAN have. That is what I do.
Even though we have changed our habits and have had the surgery, doesn't mean everyone else has to change too. It does seem insensitive and I agree with your feelings but unfortunately, we gotta deal with our own issues cuz no one else is going to do it!

State: New York | I feel your pain. I am a registered nurse and make rounds to 19 different areas in the hospital. That's 19 places where visitors have "thanked" the health care team with cakes, donuts, cookie platters, bagels and creme cheese, cupcakes, etc. Unlike you, I have not told anyone at work that I was banded so I try my best to stay away from the crap food. I bring a "survival kit" to work with me consisting of 100 calorie snacks, low carb cup-a-soups, fresh fruit and a cup of dry cereal in a sandwich bag. Since I never know what I'm going to crave, having a selection on hand keeps me from binging on the junk foods.

I don't think it is up to everyone else in my life to change their eating habits or hide food from me because I had the band done.. Thats unfair to them.. I am the one with the eating issues.. If they want to eat junk food or bring stuff for other people to eat then they have every right to do so.. Common courtesy would be not to come sit at my desk and chow down.. but if they are eating it in front of me in the breakroom so what.. thats what the breakroom is for... If I dont like it I leave... I agree it is hard but it is my problem.. not theirs...

Lovecats,
I can totally relate. At my old job there was always food by the coffee pot. And good stuff - homemade cookies, homemade beef jerky, cakes, etc. And some days a healthy item like fruit - but then they bring that really good fattening dip with marshmellow cream in it.
I'm sorry that you have to endure that but just think what a stronger person you are becoming cuz of it. Try to find some positive in it and go back to your desk and eat your health food while visualizing how great you look without that fattening food sitting on your body.
Good luck. Of course, the other option is to quit your job, sell your home, move to one of the poorest countries in the world, and work with the local people in that country. It worked for me. I got away from that food at work sydrom. Celeste

He he he,
Sprinkle salt on just one doughnut everytime you go by them. Keep a small cooller at your desk so you dont have to even go in the breakroom. Take your break anywhere but with the d*** Do*******.

| Very well said...
Where I work at the middle school here in town, teachers bring in treats regularly to share in the break room. I won't have an issue with those as long as I stay away from the room - and frankly fried foods like that used to kill me with heartburn, so I'm sure they wouldn't agree with me still. I used to have candy - M&M's especially - at my desk that I would share with the teachers and kids. Well now our school is going to allow only healthy foods and healthy snacks, so no more candy. That's good though, because then they won't be there for me.
For a "welcome back" to school treat for my teachers on my team I got name tags with apple people on the bottom (very cute) and I wrote "Welcome Back!" on each one and wrapped the tag around a low fat chocolate chip chewy granola bar. I'll be putting one in each of their boxes on the first day of school. If it were last year and pre-band, they would have gotten a small bag of M&M's and I would have bought an extra bag for just me!
