Wow, what a great thread. I am only 3 days post op. I am experiencing some slime in my mouth. Kind of like I feel like I'm going to just let loose. is this normal?

I voted on this poll this morning and was proud to say that I'd never PBed. However I just did and it was a horrible, horrible experience. I hope it was just a one off!

My first time PB'ing was today

Wow....it hit me by surprise....I was eating a deviled egg....chewed very welll....and pow....it was stuck in my throat?? I had to stand up and walk around and finally gagged and a small amount of liquid came out....was not like throwing up or vomiting....more like a baby spit up?? Threw me for a loop. So I stuck with my soft mashed potatoes.

I will be banded this Friday the 13th. It is amazing what they DONT tell you about this surgery. Had I read this forum I may have changed my mind. However, I wrote my non-refundable check for $16,000 and am hoping for the best. PBing sounds horrible. I have a sensitive gag reflex so I think I am in trouble.

People have different experiences with PBing. Some people never do it. Some do it often. Some find it a horrible experience. Others, like me, don't really mind it much. I hate to vomit. Vomiting is pretty horrible in my book. But PBing is, to me, nothing like vomiting. When I PB, the food I just swallowed comes back up without any sort of a convulsion, and without any bad tasting digestive juices. It is basically the same thing that was just in your mouth a short while before.

Some people find that "horrible." It really does not bother me. I would reserve judgment on the whole PB thing if I were you. First of all, you may not do it at all, or very much at all. And second, you may not find it particularly unpleasant.

On a separate, related issue, you really should try not to PB at all for the first month or so after surgery. This gives the band a chance to "set." So stick carefully to your doctor's menu guidelines for the first month.

But don't worry too much for now about long term PB issues. They are not a reason to avoid being banded. The health benefits of losing a lot of weight overshadow any PB issues that people face.

There was not an applicable choice for me.

I PB maybe every 3-4 months.

Wow...I'm everyday

Okay...I'm really bad, but I do every day..no matter how much or little I eat. The funny thing is that I'm not uncomfortable at all, I just can't keep anything down.

I have a super sensitive gag reflex, too, but I've only PB'd once, and that was totally my own stupid fault. I was eating too fast, and not chewing my food well enough. I felt some pressure in my chest, and up it came! It wasn't a horrible experience at all.

You'll be fine! I have NO regrets.

I get the golf ball feeling about once a week. I never threw up, but like twice I thought I would. It must have been the slime it kind of feels like bubbles coming up my throat, then all of a sudden it passes through and goes down. One time was when I ate bread stix. I stay away from those things. I noticed it happens when I don't chew well and I eat too fast. Thats when I know I am eating too fast. I don't know what is the average time for the golf ball feeling but mine just last like 30 sec.

LOL!!! I kept reading PBing and wasn't sure what it was either. So it's a productive "burp". I assumed it was short for puking and barfing.!!!

Courtney,

I just read your post about how you PB almost everyday no matter what you eat. I have the same problem. I think it is getting better since I have lost 15lbs and my restriction is less, or maybe I'm learning my body signals.

How bad is it to PB. Does anyone know??? Will it cause band slippage or would you have to be really vomiting????

I've PB once and it was last week on baby carrots. They were really chewed up. I've tried carrots again but only ate one or two. I did slime today a lot. Since my last fill I've had a feeling like something is stuck in my throat or chest. I presume that's what you are calling golf ball. I know I'm eating too much even though I know it's going to hurt. It's all good for me food, not chips, cookies or cake type stuff.

I PB more than I would like to. But it is getting better. I have found that its usually caused by eating too fast. I need to chew well! And I need to pause between bites and wait and moment to see if I am full. And sometimes its as simple as just taking one bite too many. Maybe I thought I was getting full but wasn't quite there yet, etc. Part of it is me getting to know my band and how it reacts to things and so forth. Its getting better all the time.
