Are you thinking of the immediate post-op period? While on liquids I think you would have to monitor your glucose and Insulin pretty close. Juices etc can cause spikes and then drops.

I was a Diabetic on glucophage, which I was able to stop 9 months after I had my band place! My last A1C (in March) was 5.1. So I am very pleased with those numbers. The bad part is that my cholesterol is still about 300 so I still need Lipitor.

Hope this helps,

Lisa

ladysplenda:

YMMV, but for me, I've had fantastic results:

over last 15 years, I've been on humulin/R/N combo total about 200u/day the last 5.....PLUS metformin 850 tid...plus a 'really good diabetic diet'....

during the liquid and mushie phase 3 weeks each, NO insulin NO metfomin....

My internist was literally stunned!!

Returning to 'normal foods' something under 2000 calories/day I now average about 55u/per WEEK!! plus 850m metformin bid....I might have average of 3 shots per WEEK of about 15u.....and expect this to go away completely as I continue to loose....I'm only down 32% of my goal...

and my A1c has remained at 6.0....perfect lipids, etc....(after a tiny bit of statin was added 2 months ago)....

last 14 days BG average is 122!!!

Keep good track and keep us frequent posted on this....I'm amazed along with all my other health care folks....the only one NOT surprized is the Band Surgeon...he says it happens MOST of the time....

and it is my Strong Opinion there are many reasons Lap Band was the best choice for me....
