Hiatus Hernia and LAP-BAND®

:help: Has anyone tried to get a LAP-BAND® and because you have a hiatus hernia, been told that type of WLS can't be performed on you? I have a friend that wants a band and not the RnY but because of this type of hernia, the Dr. won't do surgery. She is trying to find out if all Dr. feel that way or if she should try to find another Dr.

I had a hiatel hernia repaired at the same time my band was put in. Had my gallbladder removed also. Maybe your friend's hernia is worse than mine was. Hopefully, someone with more medical knowledge than I have will give you more insight about this problem.

I had one and it was repaired during the surgery. Nothing to it!

I'd tell your friend to get a second opinion. A surprisingly large percentage of lap bandsters had a hiatal hernia repair at the same time. I can think of dozens I know personally, including myself. Of course, your friend's may be different from the norm and the surgeon certainly has his reasons, but I'd get a second opinion before writing off the LAP-BAND®.
