Herbal Life

Hey all,

I know herbal life has a pretty bad reputation, but I need some kind of protein shakes to drink for my liquid phase, and here in Portugal we don't have slim fast or any of the other brands i have heard mentioned here on the forum. I went to a health store and all they had there was the kind of bulking up protein drinks and I was a bit afraid of that.....so I was thinking of getting the herbal life protein shakes. Does any one know any thing about these products...if it would be ok to drink?

Heather, I would read the ingredience and go from there. What does your doc say about it?

Do you have any health stores there...like we have a store called GNC...its full of vitamins, protein drinks, etc. Or, can you order stuff over the internet? What about Carnation Instant Breakfast?

Ohhh good luck on your preop diet this week :)

Kat,

If you need a good internet source www.unjury.com is a nice place. I've been using their unflavored protein powder and have tried the chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry sorbet. They also have a sample package that you can order to try the different flavors.

I've never heard of Herbal Life (unless it's the herbalife from out here?), but the protien shakes for 'bulking up' could work if you just make sure to count the protien. The 'average' body can't really use more than 30g of protien at a time, so if, for example, the protien for 'bulking up' is 60g of protien (just throwing numbers out here), just use half the powder to make your shake.

Are there any kind of supliment shakes out there? Ensure, Boost, etc? It doesn't have to be a diet shake like slimfast or atkins.

:)

I took a peek at the website but they don't mention internationally shipping. I sent them an e mail so I will wait and see.

There are a few GNC type stores but when I told the girl what surgery I was having and what I wanted she said they didn't have anything that I was looking for. In the grocery store there is nothing even remotely similar to slim fast or boost or ensure.

As for the herbal life ingredients

The first thing listed is soy protein but the second thing is fructose. It says:

90 calories per serving
30 g protein per serving
9g carbs per serving of which 8g are sugar
2.5 g fat of which .7g are saturated fats
2.5 g of fiber
.13g sodium
then it has these vitamins
A, D, E, C, B6, tiamain, riboflavin, niacin, Folic acid, biotin, calcium, iron, magnesium, fosforus, and a few other things I don't know how to translate.
