head games

This is kind of a weird question but does anyone feel like the band gives them an excuse NOT to eat? Does it help psychologically, like "sorry , can't eat that I'm banded". Maybe takes the pressure off eating. Kind of like I wish I were allergic to chocolate so I'd have an excuse not to eat it. ha ha:)

Yes, the band takes pressure off of eating.. Once you are at the proper fill level food is just not the same. You become full very quickly. I also think it has a lot to do with what types of foods you can eat as well. I do well staying away from junk most of the time. I'm just never hungry. Alcohol is another subject. If I could just give that up!

Yep, sure does. When someone has cake and ice cream I explain that I can't eat either.

One nice thing is that non banded folks don't really know what we can or cannot eat. So even if it does work we can use the band as an excuse. Banded folks... you don't need to fib, they already understand. But it does help on a "head" level as well. You come to realize that you simply can't have certain foods. I know that I can't eat anything with a flour/yeast combo so I don't even bother trying something I haven't tried before because I know what happens when I do try. It's not pretty. ;)

I was talking to a friend recently and she commented on something I *sooo* agree with. It's true for me anyway. Sometimes eating is just such a chore. I used to inhale it and today I have to chew it to a paste. Sometimes it's just not worth the hassle and it's easier not to eat. Don't misunderstand, if I want it bad enough I deal with the hassle, but it helps me to realize when I am actually hungry vs. when I am not.

I guess it sort of is a excuse, as in before post, I usually just say I am not hungry. When friends, neighbors say let me get you something , how about.... . I just say I am not hungry but thanks.

I am from the South and eating is a big hospitality thing.

As in before post, food is just something I do each day like washing my hair.

It has been wonderful to take the pressure off of "feeding" (lol) this addiction. It took a lot of time and money and embarrassment of going into the stores and carring out junk food. I knew whoever checked me out was thinking..... she NEEDS that .
