Has anyone experienced this?

Hi, I was banded 6 days ago and had a fair amount of trouble for the first 3 or 4 with nausea and consequently didn't have much to drink and lived on anti nauseants. The nausea has abated and now I suddently seem to have a coated tongue (and probably roof of mouth although I can't see it very well). It does not go away with brushing teeth or using mouthwash etc. Does this coated tongue thing sound familiar to anyone? Please let me know. Thanks!

It doesn't sound like anything I had personally with my banding, but it sounds like it may be a thrush infection to me. It is a form of a yeast infection that occurs in the mouth. I seem to remember it being pretty easily cleared up.
I'd call my Dr. and let them take a look, even your PCP should be able to deal with it, it may or may not be band related. My former MIL used to get them every single time she took an antibiotic!
I know for basic yeast infection I have read to eat yogurt, so you might be able to try that when you get progressed to mushies, but for now, I would call the Dr., and see if there is something more going on.
Hope you feel better soon. Welcome to bandland, it really is a nice place to be, hope you begin to enjoy it soon!! And welcome to LBT!!!
Kat

Many thanks Kat. You're probably right about the thrush. Thanks for the welcome too!

When we go into ketosis....the waste by-product of the fat-rendering metabolism changes a few things....our breath stinks, we get a coated tongue....we need LOTS of plain water during the day....etc. etc...

check the threads on "ketosis"....and you surgeon or nutritionist should have prepared you for this....

after your weight loss slows and you return to a more typical diet routine, these signs will go away...

Don't worry about them...and brushing does NOT help....

cheers and :welcomeB: to BandLand....

Thanks losingjusme. I am finding it a challenge to drink enough water but I'm trying hard to do so.
