Chickie, thank you so much for your response, I checked out your blog, you look great and certainly must know of what you speak. I hope you don't mind if I ask you a few questios, when you were unfilled about six months after you reached goal, did you gain weight? I was just banded on Monday August 4 . Reading the forums i noticed a few people who have reach goal with just one or two fills i was wondering if this is something you made up your mind to try before banding or after fills realized it wasn't the way to go for yourself. These are a few of the questions i was wondering about before being banded and after reading your post thought i could get some answers.

Thank You.

Chickie, you look great and are an inspiration to us all. I was banded in April of '08 and have not had a fill yet. I've lost 40 lbs and have 30 to go. I can eat absolutely everything-bread, pasta, meat, rice, etc., just smaller portions. I won't get a fill until weight loss slows way down. I don't like the idea of getting "stuck" and I figure, why rock the boat when I've had study weight loss. Everyone's different but I rather enjoy all foods, only in smaller portions. Good luck to everyone.

"Problem" foods are so unique to the person, and their degree of restriction, I wouldn't get freaked out by the responses to this post.

I can eat shrimp (which I love) without problems if I cut it into small pieces. My problem foods are:

any bread, bagels, English muffins, you name it (even toasted doesn't work)

rice or pasta

sausage

dark meat poultry

most cuts of pork

most cuts of beef (but I can do rare rib eye steak without problems)

brussels sprouts (all the time)

broccoli (sometimes)

prunes

The only way to find out what your problem foods are is to experiment - one bite at a time.

I so cannot do scrambled eggs. Sometimes I push it and have an omelette but it is very few bites. I typically PB it. I eat everything else pretty much.

This is a loaded question, LOL. Sometimes I can eat just about anything and other times I can barely swalow water. In the morning I am really tight so I usually drink protein skakes. By mid afternoon, I can eat just about anything but I have to take tiny bites and chew very well.

My restriction changes from day to day. I just made an appointment for a fill next week because I was able to eat too much the past few days and today I woke up and was back to major restriction again. I suppose everyone is different but I have been banded for about 8 months now and I have been able to eat almost everything. I do have to be careful with chicken, steak, and pork. Oh, and bread and pasta. I can only eat infant size portions of those foods and sometimes still slim them back up.

I haven't found a food I can't swallow!

I don't seem to have the same variability/fickleness of the band as others; I just eat smaller portions and chew the chewiness out of them. I PB'd on fish once, and that turned me off for a few days, but that's long gone now. I eat anything.

I can't eat french fries anymore even though they are my favorite food. Every now and again (maybe once a month), I get some hot fries with ketchup and I chew a few mouthfuls and spit it out before I swallow. I hate to admit this, because this chew and spit behavior is a sign of an eating disorder. I don't have an eating disorder, but I just want to taste fries here and there.

I can sure relate to the french fries not doing well. Luckily they are the only thing I have found that I cant eat. Thank goodness for baked potatoes.

Sorry it has taken so long to reply to you Linda!

I was totally unfilled at the 6 month at goal point because I was still losing weight. I had several small unfills, and was still losing slowly, so we took it all out, and I cut back on my running (at that stage I was running anywhere up to 55km a week) So I had to unfill to stop losing.

I didn't gain any weight after the unfill I just stopped losing, and that was the aim.

I never maintained a tight fill, because it wouldn't have fit with the lifestyle I was creating for myself. I wanted to be fit and healthy. And that meant that I needed to be able to eat a decent amount of food. I wanted to exercise, so I needed to be able to eat more than protein shakes and soft foods to support the exercise.

So I never got to a point where I ate less than 3/4 to a cup of food. That was about the tightest I got, and I wasn't happy. I was too tight. I was eating too little.

Despite the fact that we are banded, we are not supposed to limit our intake to an anorexic quantity. We are supposed to be able to eat *real* food. Fruit, veggies and real, solid protein. The idea of the band is to keep us fuller for longer, not to stop us from eating entirely.

It is okay to enjoy food post op. It really is. As humans we do derive pleasure form eating. In our society it is a socal thing. And I wanted to to be more socially acceptable, not less.

That is the long answer.

I wonder why eggs are a problem? They are a good source of protein so I keep trying to eat them...some days I can tolerate them and some days not.

I think it's different for everyone, and I've also seen great differences after every fill. My biggest problem food right now is pasta. Everything else will go down if I eat slowly enough and chew it well. But not pasta!

Immediately after banding i could eat almost anything. Once I started feeling restriction I surprisingly found that I can't eat eggs anymore. I miss them so much!!

another thing I miss is a sandwich. I would kill for a turkey sandwich.
