Girl you an I are in this together. This no drinking with meals stinks!! I have always drank ALOT when I ate. If I went out to dinner it was no surprise for me to drink at least 3+ glasses of pop. It is a hard habit to break. Giving up pop has been bad enough!! However WE will succeed!! Good luck and remember we are not alone. God Bless Sue

And if your like me where I actually find it easlier to have 5 smaller meals thats 4hrs and 40 mins more time I'm not allowed to drink. SO I have 4hrs and 20 mins to get in the recommend 64 oz of fluid. And since I stop drinking at leat three hours before going to bed so I'm not getting up a half dozen times to pee I'm left with about an hour to get in my fluids if I follow the recommendations. So I do drink closer to my meals and a little during. Like Robinem I find it helps a little with dryer foods as long as I sip.
It is important to get the fluids in so normally I can't during the hours I have so I make the nite time trips. | Loved your line about making the same noises as your coffeemaker!!! You're right the math doesn't work.

The most difficult habit for me to break is not to drink while I eat. It is very difficult for me to drink or sip while I eat. I just can't do it. I get pains in my chest, which usually ends my meal earlier than I want. Sometimes I think it is because I don't chew my food good enough or something. I find it easier to not have a drink around me when I eat. Those are usually my best meals!

This is all very interesting. One doc says to take tiny sips to help liquifythe food, one says to stop drinking an hour or more before meals and several Drs. had instructions in between. Hmmmm. Guess we have to figure this out on an individual basis. What works for one might not work for others. This may bring up some debate but a year or so ago I was listening to NPR? maybe...can't remember. The program had several specialists on the panel and the discussion was on water intake. ALL of the doctors and specialists without a single opposition, said this notion of "drinking 8 glasses of water a day" was totally unnecessary. Some said they heard it 'flushes the system' not true they said, once you're hydrated excess liquid just makes you pee more often. Not necessarily a bad thing, according to them, just unnecessary. The moderator asked where this notion that drinking 89 glasses of water was good for you...none had an answer. They agreed that unless you're doing exercise and sweating you actually get almost all the water you need from food! One lady said she has written books on water and she still has no idea who thought you needed all that water. The panel went on to say they've tried to find out who takes responsibility for this '8 glasses a day' idea. When pressed, every so called expert said "well that's what they say....everyone knows you're supposed to drink that much." They never did find out who "they" was. It was an interesting program.

Airwayman's info works for me .. I find drinking a lot of water difficult. It makes me feel bloated, uncomfortable and I don't like the frequent trips to the bathroom, especially at night. I guess we'll have to see what works best as we go along... :nervous

Now that I have very good restriction, I CAN'T drink while I eat. It just kinda perks back up into my mouth. Ugh! So, it has been great because drinking with my food has been a near impossible habit to break....... until NOW!!!

I've been practicing chewing and I don't think I'll have a problem with that. But, I sure do miss water w/ meals. Glad to hear once you get the proper restriction the urge goes away.

I always used to drink a lot of water with my meals but now it makes me want to pb or at least hurl the water.

Can you do any damage to your band if you "drink your food through"?

Preband, I would wash my meals down with 1/2 to 1 litre of liquid.
It's a very different story now. It takes practice and some getting used to, but here's how I usually play it nowdays:
I drink right up to just before I start eating, and then wait 1/2 to 1 hour after meal for another drink.
If the meal looks a little dry (eg. BBQ'd steak or chicken) I'll reserve a tablespoon or two of water in my glass, in case I want to use a drop or two it to help liquify food as I chew. (Useful when dining out, so I don't have to spit stuff out in front of others). If the food is too dry that I've had to use the water, I just leave it after getting that mouthful down.
I don't sip liquid as a drink during meals as this causes pain / blockage feeling in my band, which ends the meal right then and there.

I do not drink with my meals at all, but what i have found to be harder is not drinking after a meal. I'm so thirsty after eating. I try to wait at least 30 min but sometimes i can't stand it.

I can't drink while eating. It makes me PB, and makes me miserable for 30 min. I really have a hard time with this.

It is very hard for me to get my wter in thru the day cause i work outside. When i eat is usally the best time for me to get fluids in. so i do drink right up to and some during but not much after . usally less than half a glass of tea when out to eat. I have no fill because the doc said i was losing well but have not lost much since then. I don't know if i am still eating to much cause i have not had a fill. normally brekfast is two eggs and a piece of toast usally i don't finish the toast so any help would be nice.

Pre-band I washed my food down, I could go through 3 glasses of liquid during a meal, easily. | AMEN sister, I so the same thing. I find it is in my best interest not to drink with my meals.

I was never a big drinker with meals. The only hard part is remembering to wait at least 1 hour after eating to drink.
