Dilated pouch

What's the treatment for this? Does anyone have any experience with treating this and losing more weight? Or does this signal that it's pretty much over for me and the band?

I do know I have a dilated pouch and am in the process of contacting my surgeon to find out about it after having discovered it while trying to get a fill.

I believe it can self correct if you are unfilled for a few weeks.

Its very hard to not overeat with a band. I mean, you dont overeat to the point of taking in too many calories, but to stop the very second you feel the signal, that is hard. I consistently shove in a mouthfull or two more. .

I was diagnosed today and had a slight unfill. My surgeon said depending on the severity of the dilation most times a slight unfill to a complete unfill will allow the dilation to heal itself.

Good Luck!

I had it. I had a fill that was too much restriction, so the food and even liquids sat too long in the band before goijng through. I didn't know it, and went in for a fill because I was eating too much...because the pouch was then too big so I thought I wasn't restricted. 3 days of liquids only restored it. Many people also need at least a slight unfill, but the liquids for me gave me that little bit more weight loss that loosened the bqand enough that my restriction was fine. I guess the larger problem is if the dilation goes on for a really long time and becomes permanent.

Would someone explain 'dialation'. Is that where the pouch stretches, or that some of the lower stomach comes above the band? If it is stretched, I don't understand how a few days of liquids would shrink the stoma. On that other hand, what do I know...ha,
just curious.
Thanks.
Interesting information.

the actual stoma stays the same, as I understand it... the pouch is stretched and 'hangs' over the sides of the band... but giving your pouch a rest it naturally shrinks to it's normal size.... (imagine fat hanging over the sides of your skirt waistband) That's how the surgeon explained it to me...

Fauxnaif, I'm sorry that you are experiencing problems, hopefully it can be corrected and you can continue on your journey of weight loss.

Thank you for posting this. I'm new to this and won't be banded until May 9. I continue to learn new things everyday. I must say that this dialation thing scars me. If you don't mind could you pls elaborate abit on your story. For instance, did you measure all your food each time you ate right after you got banded and then stopped doing that? I understand that a person should really not eat more than 1/2c to 3/4c of food at one sitting but honestly I didn't realize it was that crucial to be so exact all the time.

Hope it all gets better for you soon.
