cold

I had LAP-BAND® surgery over a year ago and have lost 100 lbs. I am soooooo cold. It's not too bad during other months, but winter (and I even live in south Texas) I just am COLD. Does anybody else experience this or maybe do I have thyroid problems. Anybody?

Re: cold

Yes, I am cold as well. Sometimes I am unable to function because I am too cold to move. I was thinking more on the lines of anemia. Hopefully not but if you don't have the blood supply to warm the body then that may be a dead give away.

Re: cold

It's because you have lost the weight.

That fat kept you warm. I live in the midwest and since I gained all this weight I can go the whole winter without being very cold. I used to visably shake, but no more. All this padding keeps me insulated. I can go outside in 30 degree weather and never button up my coat. It's the only thing I will regret about losing the weight.
But, I won't be a hot, sweaty mess in the summer!!!!

Re: cold

I don't feel uncomfortably cold, but I have developed a taste for long sleeved tops and fleece sweatshirts. The electric bills in this area are ridiculous, so I try not to raise my thermostat above 70. I have a quilt that actually folds up into a throw pillow, but opened it is a lap quilt and the pillow covering becomes a pocket for your feet. I love to get all comfy under that while watching TV. My cats like it too. I usually end up with one in my lap.

I would say I feel the cold more, but it is not bad. I agree that when fat the insulation took care of it. Now I am collecting sweaters where before I couldn't stand the thought of wearing them (too hot).

I think I will keep the sweaters.

Re: cold

I was a person who slept in a summer nightie with the fan on full blast year long. When i hit the 100lb loss mark it was like all of a sudden i went into a deep freeze mode. I think the body is still not used to having less padding. Im always cold now.......and dressed in layers! This past summer was the first time in 15 years that i did not mind the Texas heat.

Re: cold

BBBBRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!

Does that answer the question?

Dh can't get over the change - from wearing Tshirts in the house year-round, to wearing long underwear, with a fleece sweatshirt on top.

Re: cold

I went through this and I did adjust after about a year. But my thermostat is definitely set lower than it was - I have to wear something to bed in winter where I never did, I wear a jacket or long sleeves in temperatures where I wouldnt have needed to and in winter, I am known to pull the throw rug off the back of the couch and over me.

I'm not driving anyone crazy by wanting the heater on in the middle of summer or anything, but fat definitely keeps you warm.

Re: cold

I have been extremely cold. At home my husband and son are warm and wearing tshirts, and I am just freezing. Even my fingers feel frigid. I am hoping that my internal thermostat will also adjust with time.
