I was banded yesterday and the doc also found and repaired a hernia. I am very uncomfortable today and wondering if it might be because of the hernia surgery more than the band. Has anyone else had a hernia repaired at the same time?

hi,
my doctor also fixed a large hernia when he put the band in. i was worried when he told me i had a hernia...but later found out it was no biggie. from what i've seen on this website....alot of bandsters have hernia repairs when they get the band.
you say you are uncomfortable? what's the issue?
i felt not-so-great for a few days after my operation, but i feel most of it was from the anesthesia

Obesity is a major cause of hernias. I'd venture a guess most of us had them.

I am still having lots of gas pain, but I guess that's normal. I can't seem to find a comfortable position to sleep. I've been walking around the house but it still hurts for me to take a deep breath. I am sure these are all things that will get better as the days go by.

Some people get their hernia fixed under insurance and get the band while the doc is in there.........
cuts down the bill...... hospital and anesthesia are covered under the hernia operation!
My friend who is 5 year post op of a RNY, is getting a hernia and a TT next week... same deal... cut the price in half

I'm doing exactly that...I'm getting my hernia repaired during my lap procedure. My BMI is too low for insurance to cover me, but they have already approved my hernia repair and two days in the hospital, so I got several thousand $$$ off my price. That is really nice for a self payer!! :) BTW, will I need two days in hospital recovery? Should I milk out the two days in hospital?

Hi Misty-
I am also one of Dr. Carter's patients and he also fixed a hernia while he did my band. I had surgery on 9-17-07 and really felt nothing from the hernia just alot of gas pains in my chest, sholders and back. But it did pass in about 4 days. Good luch to you for a quick recovery!
