I am 4 months post op and have lost close to 30 lbs. But I noticed that lately I am ALWAYS cold. I live in Florida, so it's not too bad, but even today, it is 74 degrees and I have the heater on in my office. Anyone else always feel cold since their surgery?

Yes, I am the same way. I've been cold since surgery 18 months ago. I have no idea were it's coming from buy my sister just had Gastric Bypass RNY and she stays cold all the time as well.
My family has low iron so I was just attributing it to that but maybe the surgery had something to do with it.

Actually, I've heard that the coldness is a side effect of the surgery. They say that the more weight you lose, the colder you get. Based on the theory that fat people are always super-hot.
And while that describes my husband, who is always too hot, I've always been cold. So I'm not sure where they're getting that from, or if I'm just the exception to the norm.
If I get even colder after surgery, I have no idea what I'll do. I guess I can wear parkas during our CA summers. |

I'm always cold and I never was pre-band. I think it's the weight loss though and not the band or the surgery itself. I've read that your body's core temp takes a long time to re-set, so it still thinks I'm carrying 130 additional lbs and that I don't need my internal heat on. But I do!!

Wow! I hope that happens to me. Since my thyroid medication was changed a couple of years ago from Synthroid to Cytomel, I'm always hot. Like blood-boiling kind of hot. But I wouldn't give up my Cytomel for anything because the Synthroid did not work at all for me.
I cannot tolerate any temp above 65 degrees. Living in Houston, that means I can only go outside 6 days out of the year. My boyfriend sleeps in sweats with 2 blankets and a comforter while I'm completely bare and still miserably hot. I'd love to be a little closer to normal. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

The girl I work with and I always used to fight over the thermostat--I was always hot, and she was always cold(she weighs about 95 lbs). I have lost about 35 pounds, and now I am cold right along with her! I thought maybe I was imagining it, but I guess not! Het Brenda B--my husband is from Montana--near Kalispell--it is my absolute favorite place to go in the summer, but I don't know if I could survive the winters! We are having an unusually cold, snowy winter here in Colorado, though, and I have been freezing!!

I have to wear cashmere scarves to work, and I live in Los Angeles! I am freezing! Except when I am exercising. My DH says my toes are popsicles. ????

Yes I have to wear warm pants and sweatshirts around the house now. I know (think) it because I am not wearing my 85 lb coat anymore. I used to sweat with any movement. It was embarrassing.

This did happen to me, over winter here in Melbourne I was freezing, I always was running up to the bedroom to grab a jacket. Its summer here now and very hot so I'm not sure whether it has passed and I've acclimatised to my lower fat levels or whether its just because its hot.

I FREEZE all the time! I am always cold! My hubby says it's because my thermometer is broken. It doesn't matter how many layers I wear, whether it be socks, shirts, whatever, I am cold! I have been told that it is because I am losing my "insulation". I still have a lot of insulation to lose so I don't know what I will do when it's all gone.

I think the more I loose, the colder I get. Not a bad trade off, at least now I am not having that embarassing sweat problem now!

Count me in! I am always freezing these days. This morning I got out of my warm and toasty bed, down comforter, flannel sheets and fleece blanket, to -5 degrees outside! (-20 with wind chill!) Everyone always give me the "losing your insulation" line as well...it gets pretty old. This is the first winter in YEARS that I have worn a coat at all. I have discovered since losing over 60 pounds that I can wear knee socks now.... yay! They keep my legs warm! |
