3 years post op its great but developed lower stomach problems

Hey Guys,

Three years this July and I was right at needing to lose 100 pds which i did and more..Best thing I ever did however due to not being able to eat certain foods I am finding I am developing lower bowel symptoms..constipation and this last week a severe case if diverticulitis..(inflamation of lower bowel) Has anyone one else had problems with these symptoms? If so does it hurt take take like metamucil or fibercon in a drink.

Thanks if you can share some input and if your on your way good luck its been again the best thing that ever happened to me :);)

I would highly recommend adding a fiber suppliment to your diet if you haven't... I use the benefiber powder, it's completely tasteless.

Hope you feel better :)

some of my family members have hardcore constipation problems. Drink more water and if you make sauces or soups just add apple pectin. It thickens the soup and keeps you moving. Also try vega or ultimate meal... liquid meal replacements that keep you moving. (No whey, which blocks you up, and counteracts the effect of fiber. that's my experience)

Its why I stay loose enough to eat virtually anything, and I avoid a high protein/low carb diet. Nobody will ever convince me its healthy in the long run, although it makes you lose weight in the short term.

What CAN you eat? Do you eat plenty of fresh fruit and veg and some sort of minimally processed grain foods - like oatmeal for example? Could you tweak your diet and perhaps include some of the suggestions above? Or even reduce your fill slightly so that you can eat more?

Living with a tight band increases the likelihood of constipation. At least that was my experience. I'm assuming it's because you can't get liquids down as easily, can't eat fruit, etc. That's one of the benefits (probably the ONLY benefit) of having (for now) only a small fill.....I have no bathroom issues.

Benefiber! Amazing stuff. You can mix two teaspoons with 8oz of water and you can't see it or taste it and it does not turn into a gel. I have started adding it to anything I drink that is liquid including protein shakes. It will take time for it to start working but just hang in there.

Try to get a total of 4gms carbs per 100 calories.

Edit to add... I meant 4gms fiber per 100 calories.
