I am researching having Lap Band surgery. I have type 2 diabetes. I see that many have done a 10 liquid diet prior to their surgery. I take 6 different medications for my diabetes and and wondering how others with diabetes manager their blood sugars during the liquid diet stage.

My blood sugars were fine during the liquid stage. I was borderline Type 2, on 500mg of Metformin 3 times a day. I was removed off my meds prior to surgery and have never went back on. My blood sugars continue to be in the normal range! Best of luck!

I was on 100u bid insulin AND 750 metformin tid....plus a handful of other meds.....

I followed my preop diet exactly (and it was NOT 'liquids only'), lost the 15 pounds required--took 6 months to do it!!!---and BMI of 47.5 at surgery.

WATCH your blood glucose level CLOSELY and co-ordinate your surgeon and you internist during this phase.

I went from that 100u bid to nearly NO insulin within a few days of surgery. It took 10 months to use ONE bottle of Humulin N instead of one weekly plus 1 R!!!

I have been totally off insulin since May 06.

WATCH your lab work closely!!!
