Insulin Resistance

Hi, my mom and I are getting banded on the 30th of this month. She was just diagnosed with diabetes a couple of months ago. And I was diagnosed with insulin resistance a couple of years ago. (I also had gestational diabetes in 2000). I've read several of the posts in this message board and it's very encouraging so many have been able to lower their meds and many more have been able to completly quit all meds! I have more of a vanity question, so here goes! Being insulin resistant, I have some facial hair, skin tags, dark skin patches and some hair loss. Will these things lessen as I lose weight? Or am I stuck with them? I was curious to know what others have experienced. Thanks

Hey! Congrats on having a date set and that's awesome that you and your mom are having this together. I think it's encouraging to have someone to walk this journey with you!

I have PCOS and it should like that's what your systems are from. I've only been banded 2 weeks so I can't speak on the symptoms going away but I have always been told that with PCOS, you always have the disease but the symptoms disappear as you loose weight. I'm sure hoping this to be true for me!!!

I was taking Metformin for the IR and was told by the surgeon to stop taking it after surgery. It took me forever to get my body used to that medication but I was happy to be able to stop taking it!!

Good luck! Keep us updated as you go!

Hi

I am wondering if you guys can help me, i have all the same problams as you guys, but i am not 100lbs over weight, my Dr has said if i lose the weight, he could take me off the Metformin(2000mgs), Thyroid Meds.
But i have tried so so hard and the weight is still going on.
I have lost alot of my hair, i have facial hair, i am IR. I feel like crap everyday. I weight 206lbs i am 5ft 5.
I am going to contact the Lap Band Place tomorrow to see what they say. But i have a feeling it is going to be nooooooooooooo.

Has anyone gone through the same, but under 100lbs over weight?
