Thumbs up Diabetic Update for eating on the road 18 months PostBanding...

...triumphantly :clap2: , eating on the road for 4 days...(15+ years on insulin injections twice daily).....

....from a long drive to SpudVille and the Eastern Provences, beyond the Snake River and into the much promoted 'Treasure Valley'....

100+ heat ~what do we expect for SUMMER!!!

Eating out and eating away from home were points I wanted to evaluate.

Last time I was there was only about 6 months post-Banding. Big weight changes weren't completely evident, and I still was quite limited on meals....Now everyone was amazed....as was I myself....

This time, I went to the same Outback to see how my appetite/eating may have changed....

I did manage to eat a bowl rather than a cup, of their incredible chili....it took me about 35 minutes to do it, and I had a couple of 1/4" thick 2" long slices of steak....all went well...

Satiated, no slime, etc. No interest in desert, etc.

later at home of host, had fresh blueberries and a spoon of FF yogurt....

Others had cookies, ice cream,......I simply wasn't intested....how odd!!!

Lunch at Billy Boots in Sisters....a cup of chicken noodle soup and 1 piece of their 'fish & chips'....with 3 (count 'em THREE) of the french fries....

Plenty satisfied...

Breakfast this am at dawn-30, 1 shredded wheat roll, a few blueberries, skim milk...and 'mid morning snack' as FitDay puts it....a side of CRISP bacon and 1 piece of toast...

later 2 SMALL blueberry muffin, homemade...

My glucometer was reading generally in the 101-109 range, with 1 up to 129....not bad IMHO....

Still no insulin shots since April or May (who can remember these days)...

So Life IS not only possible, but MORE ENJOYABLE without eating the crap that nearly killed me in the first place.....

This should be shouted off the roof top.
Imagine that - a diabetic that chose blueberries and yogurt instead of sugar sugar sugar. :hail: 3 cheers for the Lap Band!

btw: what diabetic meds are you taking now? Did you find that once you were off the insulin you were able to lose faster?

Exclamation

re: "what diabetic meds are you taking now? Did you find that once you were off the insulin you were able to lose faster?"

1) Metformin 850 bid;
2) I was markedly decreased insulin immediately postOp....although it took 11 months to get to 'nearly OFF insulin'....

Speculation is insulin was a two-faced dragon....

when I first started taking it 1990, I immediately gained 75 lbs...
and it was all but impossible to lose it despite many pointed attempts....though I did manage to drop to 350 range from 373 high....I could not hold it....another round of massive efforts did get me to sub 340 range on date of first surgical consult....though I had stalled out there for over a year.

A1c was above 9 pre-insulin; horrid blood values with triglycerides and lipids; blood glucose were averaging 350!!!! Imagine!!!

My best weight loss postOp was the 6 week liquid/mushie phase. Although I continue the trend downward, not much actual decrease in lbs, though clothes sizes and body configuration improve....as do blood values....Chip 'N Dale Dancers may offer a contract should this trend continue HAR!!!

A1c has ranged 5.9~6.1 in the last 10 months with nearly no insulin, and decrease from tid to bid metformin.....

What seems to be happening post-insulin, is my food cravings continue to decrease, mood fluctuations and panic/anxiety attacks moderate, and the response to every possible event in my life, is no longer 'EAT'......

Life is Good!!!
