| Won't do surgery until lose some weight....
Hello, I have a friend who has finally been approved for her surgery but she needs to lose about 30 lbs before they will do the surgery, as a safety thing I am sure. She is very nervous about this and wants to get it off, but don't know where to start. I suggested that she go on a low-carb diet and lots and lots of water drinking and walking if she can, but she had lots of health problems so the walking is probably not an option.
Is there any of you who have done anything to lose some weight quick before surgery? If so please advise me and I will share with her.....
Thanks so much!

Hi there..I had to lose 15 lbs before my surgery and of course I waited till the last minute..thinking that Thanksgiving and Christmas were going to be my last holidays where I could EAT and EAT and EAT.. But , needless to say that I did take the 15 lbs off in less than a month. I started off drinking 2 protein shakes a day, and a small dinner with carbs. I did that for 2 weeks and then drank a shake for breakfast, had soup or chilli for lunch, then did a dinner lo fat with no carbs. That worked for me. But we all have different body types. If she is going to eat lo carbs but high fat...I am not sure if that's going to work. I hope this helps.

Low-carbing it really does take off weight quickly. If she does nothing else beyond removing all bread, pasta, potatoes, and as much sugar as possible from her diet she will see results. Beyond that, drinking LOADS of water and moving around as much as possible are things to do.

I was given a similar ultimatum by my surgeon, but he gave me a ONE PAGE diet to follow, which dropped me nearly 20 pounds in 2 months!!!
So I know it can be done when one is motivated....which I was....I believe it also serves as introduction to the discipline we must develope in post-op stage...
I hesitate to post the diet because that by rights should come from the surgeons office or a dietician....but there are tips and experiences aplenty hereabouts....

They ask you to lose weight to reduce the size of your liver .Also kinda like a commitment thing. I did low-carb and lost 16Lbs in a month .Also they are some insurance companies that ask you to lose 5% of your body weight before surgery. My surgeon recommended to use protein shakes-1for breakfast 1 for lunch then a low carb dinner. and drink water it flushes fat.
