I have a date! A date with destiny!

Hey guys,

So I went and saw the surgeon yesterday. My Mum was with me, which made me feel a bit better about going. Anyway, he's a really nice guy, young too, which made me feel more comfortable as well. I asked my questions, like how long a stay in hospital and how long off work and stuff, which he answered.

He said he wouldn't lie to me, that every surgery has risks that I need to be aware of, but he hasn't lost anyone yet, and it won't be a young person if it did happen. (I'm 23). He gave me a little book which had all the information about the diet and stuff after I have surgery.

AND.... He gave me my date! I'm getting banded on the 4th July!!! I know, all you americans out there, that's Independance Day... well, I will have a new independance... ! Dr Hopkins is a really nice man, and I recommend him to anybody that's in Brisbane, Australia.

He wants me to loose 5kgs before the operation, and so I started today. Instead of catching the lift between 1 floor in the hospital I'm at, I was walking up and down the stairs. It felt good. Because I'm not an active person at all, and I need to become active.

Anyway, that's my story, so I'm on my way!

Stephie

Hey Stephie--congratulations on getting your date! I hope this will be a life-changing experience for you like it has been for me. You are young and should have no problems. What kind of pre-op diet does he have you on? Some people have to do liquids only for a few weeks before surgery, but I just had to do low carb, high protein--thank goodness! That is actually how I still eat--it seems to work for me. Good luck on your journey!

Thanks guys for the congrats. I'm still really nervous. To answer your question connie, I don't actually have any particular pre-op diet, He wants me to try and loose 5kgs though.

I know it's a long journey, but I'm ready for it I think. I know it's going to be a tough journey as well. I must admit I'm not looking forward to the 2 weeks clear fluids stage. But it's going to be worth it.

Reading the book made me scared though. It was talking about complications with the surgery and my heart started to speed up... making me get some ectopics... *rolls eyes* I have venticular ectopics on a regular basis, like for instance, right now as I'm typing this.

But anyway, I'm looking forward to not having this blasted back pain anymore, that's for sure. I have really bad lower back problems, and most of them are related to the weight I think. Anyway... :)! I'm excited!
