How should I care for incisions?

I was banded 2 days ago and was not told to do anything to my incisions. What does everyone else do? I have some soreness when I walk around or get up but have not noticed any oozing at all.

Thanks,
Darla

Hi, and welcome to bandland. The only thing I was told to do is to make sure I dryed them good after showers.

Are your incisions covered with steri stips or glue? I have steri strip and was told not to remove them, the longer they stay on the smaller the scar (its not a big deal if they fall off on their own). No other care is needed, shower as usual and dry them off.

Good luck

I was told to wash mine with antibacterial soap, pat dry and apply triple antibiotic cream on them. (Mine were slightly infected & swollen) They healed up very nicely. I would check with your doctor to see what they suggest.

I can say this much, I used triple antibiotic ointment more diligently on one of incisions more so than the others because it was more irritated & I barely have a scar there. The others are raised & purple.

Yes I've heard Savlon is excellent for them. Not sure if you have it there, but its just a cream you put on scrapes and grazes.

Plus what about those little silicon things that flatten out scars?

I'm worried about the scars. I know they're little but I find it frustrating to have gotten through three pregnancies with big babies with my stomach absolutely unmarked only for it to have scars on it from surgery. Oh, I have a caesar scar from one caesar but that's hidden in the foliage.

One thing for sure, my stomach would have to look really bad for me to have a tummy tuck. The thought of that scar terrifies me.

I patted them dry and put bandaids on them for awhile to keep them clean.

Once they are healed (skin is healed over, no scabs) you can start using the silicone stuff or other scar reduction tools. I'm using a silicone gel -- that's what my drugstore happened to have so I decided to give it a try. You have to do it for a few months, apparently. I just got started as I'm 4 weeks out and the incisions look to be healed over now.
My gallbladder surgery was over 8 years ago and those scars are almost invisible unless you are looking for them. Just one of them sticks out a little, but it's not discolored. I figure time will take care of these new scars too.
