I find it impossible. I am either too tight or too loose. The last time I saw the dr. I had him take some out. I told him to just take out a tiny bit. I went from throwing up constantly to exactly the opposite.
Now I can eat anything I want, bread, pizza, etc. I have to choose not to eat those things. The main thing is I eat dinner between 5-6 and around 8:00 I am really hungry and I don't want to eat at night.

I hope this time I get the right amount. Enough for restriction but not puking every day.

Getting ready to band

Hi all, I weigh 217lbs with a BMI of 37 and have yoyoed all my life with dieting. I'm 32 years old and I just set my surgery date for January 17th which has me both excited and very nervous. I am very active, exercising about 4-5 times a week so food is really where I lack control. It sounds silly but one of the things I am most nervous about is my social life. I live in Trinidad & Tobago and my husband and I socialise a lot and Trinidad has a big drinking, partying and eating culture! I see the life post surgery as a path to getting healthy, exercising more and my husband and I are even talking about setting a goal of participating in a 5k late next year. I'm curious how others have dealt with a big change in their social lifestyles. I noticed a few of you discussing Thanksgiving, how have you dealt/ plan to handle the holiday. We do not have Thanksgiving but Christmas and Carnival are huge celebrations surrounded with food and alcohol. At Christmas you go from house to house and it's seen as rude to not have a drink or something to eat!

Considering Lapband - have BMI of 31

Hello. I'm female, age 39, height around 5'5" or 5'6" and weight 186 or so. My BMI is 31 according to the calculators online. I would love to get back to a weight of 125-135 as my body looks healthy at that weight. Did any of you have stats similar to mine and get banded? I'm curious to hear other stories. Is getting banded worth it? How will I feel afterwards? My eating problems consist of eating too much at one setting and bad food choices. I'm never really "hungry"...I just eat when it is time to eat. For instance...my husband is cooking dinner right now and I'm not really hungry but I'm going to eat what he makes. Does that make any sense? Will I have to change my diet? I guess what I'm trying to say is will this Lap Band work for a person like me? How does it make you feel "full" to where you know you have to stop eating? I never really know when to stop now...I don't feel like I totally overeat but I obviously eat too much or I would be thinner.:help:

I am so glad I found you!

Audree,

First off let me just say thank you for starting this thread almost a year ago. I have read the entire thread and you have all been such an inspiration to me.

A little about me. I am 29 y/o, 5'6" and 188 lbs. I am married with two beautiful little boys. I haven't always been obese, it has been a battle the last 5 years to keep it under control since having my sons. Genetically, I am wired to be obese, diabetic, hypertensive with heart disease. I was dealt a crappy hand, what can I say...:help:

Up until I found this thread, I thought I was alone. I figured no one with a BMI of 30 or 31 had the band so no one would understand why I am doing this. I was so wrong. My husband would not understand, he thinks it is will power, nothing to do with genetics. He loves me how I am and would never ask me to lose weight even though I was only 135lbs when we met 7 years ago. At this point in the game, I have told my best friend and my mother who both support my decision. I am not able to tell my hubby and that has been the hardest part of my battle. I travel a lot and I only live about 2 hours from TJ so I am going to take myself down there, stay a few days and come home. I must be crazy!!!!:dizzy: I have never told him an absolute lie like this. I have let him know that I have to go out of town for a meeting and that I am going to start a fasting/liquid diet before Christmas to get a jump start on my New Year's resolution. He and I work so much that we see eachother for 2 hours a day and then we go to bed. Luckily I work from my home. He is in bed right now as I type.

I am going to need so much support from others and I have never been in this situation. Usually I am the shoulder to cry on and I carry the weight for everyone around me. I don't even know where to begin with all of the feelings I am having now, 10 days pre op!!!! I am scared, excited, nervous, happy, wired, I haven't slept in like 7 days. I am so happy to hear so many wonderful things about Dr. Ortiz, I am not nervous about the surgeon I chose at all. I am more nervous about coming home. What if I PB or slime with my husband next to me. Audree, you are a great post op example, you did soooo well on the liquids, that is going to be so hard for me because I still have to cook dinner for my family while I sip on some broth an crystal light, LOL!!! I am not too worried about the scars, my stretch marks cover my entire abdomen, I had two 9 1/2 lb babies in the last 5 years. Very rarely do I let anyone see me without a shirt on, unless the lights are out!

Enough rambling on, I am so grateful to have found this thread. Any advice from people who did not tell there partner or friends, or kids...I would appreciate it. I am feeling guilty for something I am doing to improve myself, I am such a giver, I never take and it is sooo hard for me to just be happy for me. Thanks for reading everyone, it was hard for me to open up like this. :faint:

Wow! You do plan to tell him once you get home, right?

I want you to know that I had a very easy recovery. I never needed the pain meds, and honestly, I would never have even known I had surgery if I didn't have the little cuts on my tummy.

You won't have trouble with throwing up (pb) or slime until after you have had your fills. Most people don't even have that after one fill.

If you think you need this surgery, and that it will help you, it's your body and you are brave to do it with no support. I never told anyone other than one close friend and my daughter.

I couldn't be happier that I am finally at the weight I was 23 years ago when I had my son. Getting the band was the best thing I could have done for myself.

Just let any of us know if you have any questions at all and we will be here for you!

AudricIan, let me just say WOW! It sort of makes me giggle that you're not telling your husband but then again it scary too....I'm sure you feel the same way. I HOPE HOPE HOPE you don't have any complications but if you do you have your best friend and mother.

I'm 5'5" or 5'6" and 186 and also considering the band. I've read many threads lately about complications so I'm kind of backing off the idea for the moment but I'm still going to continue reading. I just wish there was a statistical summary of how many patients have the band and how many have complications, etc.

What is your surgery date? I'm so excited to see how you do during this process!!!! I am so jealous you live so close to TJ! I live in Kentucky so I'd have to find followup care here. It would also be a MAJOR MAJOR expense for us living on just my husband's salary.

Keep me posted on your progress!:clap2:

Hi all, I have a 36 BMI age 48 and 5'8". Since I started researching the lap band a year ago I've gained about 20 lbs.! I was not obese untill my last pregnancy at 39. Prior to that I gained 70 lbs. with my first preganancy at 29 but took it all off and then some until my next pregnancy....seems like hormones for me plays a big part. I lost alot of the weight but then menopause weight starting creeping on....that weight is as hard to fight as pregnancy gains. Lesson...it gets harder, as my doc warned to take weight off later on in life. If you have a weight prob now ...it may get worse.

Met with the nurse at the sugeons office today, finally, she told me I probably won't get covered by CIGNA after all the hoops I jumped thorough, but I am thinking I will take out a home equity loan for it...not that I"m in any position to go into debt but I know my health depends on this. I can definitely not tell my husband about the loan...think it will be okay because house title is in my name and I can get automatic deductions from my checking with paperless bill paying...I hope!!. If there's a will there's a way I believe.

I want to start a poll about someones quesiton here re the rate of complications or problems. Seems from what I've read here it's more success and people pleased with the band than not?
